I have changed my mind. Why not. Other schools are bringing players from Europe and other pro leagues.Illinois had some 7 footer who is very good. He had played 3 years in a pro league. It is the new CBB, It sucks but its happening.

If the rules say these guys can play then you aren’t doing yourself any favors by trying to make some Quixotic stand on principle. Dabo Swinney famously refuses to utilize the transfer portal to help build his teams. What good has that done Clemson?

The NCAA really doesn't have any rigidly defined rules in regards to transfer, pro league players etc. I really believe they are trying to stay out of the court rooms. All this IMO, is the NCAA's fault in a lot of ways. They have been an organization based on greed and now the players are having their way. If Maryland wants to sign a G league player, good for them.

Get out of here with that. Good for them signing a 25 yr old pro. What are we doing. There is a reason the overwhelming majority of programs arent touching this and are highly critical of it.
Again, good for them. The whole system is a mess. You have players coming from other countries after playing professionally, you have many programs whose stated goal is to get older. You have players playing 6 years. Colleges through NIL are paying much more than what a guy gets in the G League. College Football and Basketball are basically pro leagues now. If you are asking me if I like, my answer is hell no. Until the NCAA figures out a fair way to get things under control, then Maryland should do its best to get competitive.
I get you hate Buzz and think he is a bad coach but based on the mess that is CBB right now, he should do everything in his power to get better players.

“An amateur in sports is an individual who participates in athletics for pleasure, personal satisfaction, or education rather than for financial gain or professional compensation. They generally do not receive a salary or payment for playing, often adhering to strict eligibility rules—particularly in collegiate sports—that prohibit professional contracts, endorsement income, or compensation beyond necessary expenses.”
Amateur athletics, at least in Football and Basketball, is no longer and since that is the case why not use G league players? The NCAA is, historically, one of the worst run organizations and due their incompetence teams can now take advantage of pools of players that should not be available to them.
With that said, if the door is open to the Terps then I say walk through it and use whatever means necessary to get this program back to what it should be.
It’s sickening this is where collegiate athletics is now, but it is all on the NCAA, IMO!

His age bothers me more than that he played some professionally already. But none of it bothers me enough to not pursue.
There are no age limits to being a college student, so the schools cannot declare athletes are “students” then say they can’t be older than 23 or whatever.

Illinois has built a good team, bringing in players who have played professionally. They mentioned on the game last night, that two assistants have made 86 trips overseas to "recruit" players.
I don't like what College sports have become, but it is what it is. Until things change, Maryland is well within its rights to pursue pro players who have eleigibility left.

The guy Oats got was eventually denied the ability to play. I suspect the same wouldve happen if Buzz had gone through with bringing in Walker. Shameful, but at least he didnt go through with it.

The genie won’t ever go back in the bottle as far as college athletes earning money. The only way for that to happen is for the schools to swear off all the money they make and operate like the D-2 and 3 level schools. That’s where you can still enjoy the version of college athletics that we were always told the big schools engaged in. But we all know the big schools won’t do that (the Big Ten once made empty threats that they would go to an Ivy League business model if they had to pay athletes….lol).

Yeah I know. We've seen older players after military service or missions. Just saying the idea of a 25 y/o freshman bothers me more than the idea of a former G-League or Euro player freshman.

Oregon F Kwame Evans Jr. has announced that he plans to enter the transfer portal. He's a Baltimore native, so one to keep an eye on when things open up in a couple weeks.

Sounds like Pharrel Payne's return is basically confirmed. Medical waiver approved, and an NIL deal somewhere between $2-3 million. He had a ton of schools sniffing around him, but Maryland got it done.

Good first step if true. Was there ever any confirmation of what the injury was?
