Following four consecutive losses by an average of 28.0 points, Maryland heads back on the road for a matchup against Minnesota in Minneapolis on Sunday afternoon. The Golden Gophers currently hold a record of 11-12 (4-8) on the year, and had lost seven straight games before pulling off a major upset over Michigan State earlier this week. Niko Medved is in his first season as their head coach, following seven years as the head coach at Colorado State.
Minnesota is led by their defense, and they defend extremely well without fouling and protect the paint at a high level. They're excellent inside the arc on the offensive end as well, led by North Carolina transfer Cade Tyson who averages 19.8 points per game. They aren't a big team by any means (Colorado State transfer Jaylen Crocker-Johnson is their biggest starter at 6'8" 240 lbs.) but they use what size they do have very well down low.
Maryland is 17-3 all-time against Minnesota, but did lose their last matchup in Minneapolis during the 2023-24 season.
