He has never signed a player like Alonso or made a trade like Baz.

His approach is different.

My bad. I didn't realize Alonso was in the rotation.

I'd consider Cano a pitching victory as well.

Disappointed they haven't squeezed more from Povich and especially McDermott, though.

Curious as to why you think that? In '23 he was legit great for four months (non-continuous), meh for one and mop-up duty in the final month. He showed flashes of greatness in '24, but much like '25 he wasn't consistent enough to be an effective late-inning arm.

He's the definition of why BP arms are nearly always fungible.

It shows a clear shift in philosophy in FA. He signed a player to a big money deal with years. He was (reportedly) the runner up for Suarez and Shwarber. If you cant see how this is different than how he has acted in the past then I'm not sure what to tell you.

You're choosing to have the most narrow possible criteria for if Elias is doing his job differently or if the offseason was successful.

"Did he get an ace? No? Then it's an F grade and it's the same as the offseason where the crown jewel was Charlie Morton."

You're not an idiot, so I don't understand how you can't see the nuances that you refuse to acknowledge.

Scott Boras has all but confirmed that the Orioles offered Suarez five years and $125 million.

He got 5/$130m from Boston with a mutual 6th year. I guess that's an "OH! Almost!" situation, but in reality, that's an agent laying the tread marks.

More than one report said that the O's made a competitive 5 year offer for Suarez. To be fair, I'd have cheerfully beaten the Red Sox's offer because Suarez was my favorite target of the offseason, but they were obviously trying to land him.

The answer was Bryan Ramos.

This is just another guy they'll try to claim then outright.

Yep, and time is on their side.  ST is 10 days away, and players start to get uncomfortable not knowing where they are playing next year.

I saw a clip of Jon Morosi, he said it's looking more and more like a 1 year deal for Valdez.

Good news! I saw a dog today.

IF Valdez would do  one year deal then Elias should through the roof and get him.

I'd be absolutely shocked if he has to settle for one year.  I could see 3-4 years with an opt-out after one.  We'll see.  It's getting late for sure.

I guess it is possible he would take 1 year.  If that is true, I think he goes somewhere else.

1/40 to the Mets is my guess.

The idea that he would be more worthy of a long deal as a 33 year old than now is unhinged.

He would play all year as a 32 year old, but my max would be 3 years.

With 2027 potentially being not being played at all?

Do people think this guy’s going to still be good? Or do they think his toxicity has cratered his value?

Move.On.

I meant it's unhinged for him to bank on being more worthy of a longterm deal next year when he's a year older.

Move.On.

I expect him to still be good for 3ish years and usable after that.

The character issues are a concern. Hard to say how much from the outside, but gotta think it's a part of why he's found such a hard time getting the deal he (and everyone else) expected. I got no issue with anyone who removes him from their board for that reason. I think of it more of a sliding scale. I preferred just about every other significant FA or trade target to him for that reason. But those options are all gone except for Gallen or an unexpected trade. I think it's time to get him signed. If he refuses and remains on the market after this week then my max offer plummets. I think it's important to get it done now or to get it done (relatively) cheaply. I wouldn't pay expected market rates for him in two plus weeks.
