Brendan Sorsby granted injunction vs. NCAA, eligible to play in 2026

This is just insane. I'm the biggest NCAA critic you will find, but if there was one area where I thought they could be, and should be, on solid legal ground to make and enforce rules, it's when it comes to athletes, coaches, etc. betting on games. Especially when it's on their own team as Sorsby did. But apparently the NCAA can't even do that. So it's probably fair to ask at this point why the organization should even exist anymore.

The cynic in me thinks this is just a Texas judge looking to secure political points to get himself re-elected. But that doesn't change the repercussions here.

Pete Thamel reporting that the Big Ten will discuss a conference-wide boycott of Texas Tech, potentially refusing to schedule them in any sport moving forward. Nebraska and Georgia have already implemented a boycott of their own.

Sorsby is now headed to the supplemental draft.

So reading the tea leaves here? Tech wised up and realized the Big 12 is serious about not giving them any TV money this year so long as they intended to play Sorsby. They also got clued in to the fact the Big 12 can also impose a Big 12 playoff ban, too.

Seriously - who’s in charge down there?

Be curious to see where he ends up going, both team and round. I think he was believed to be a 1st Rd prospect before he opted to return to college and the gambling became public knowledge.

Sounds like it’s Cody Campbell’s world in Lubbock these days.

Interesting tidbits passed from a friend:

47-page federal court lawsuit includes Ken Paxton as the AG of Texas as a defendant. He apparently overstepped his bounds by a lot in threatening legal action against the Big 12.

Cody Campbell says they won't seek the return of any money paid to Sorsby... while not mentioning how much of his reported deal had already been paid out. Certainly not the full amount, so solid work by PR with the phrasing.

The NFL doesn't have to let Sorsby into the supplemental draft.

This whole thing makes me wonder if it's Ken Paxton. Lol.

Wow, I didn't see this before I made this post. That's wild.

Nah, Paxton is just the paid-off politician. Follow the money. It's Campbell.

The NFL announced that it will not hold a supplemental draft, so looks like Brendan Sorsby will not be playing football this season after all.

That letter was fun to read. By spelling out how he bet on his own team under false names and through intermediaries (breaking state laws and dismantling the integrity of the sport), they're basically speaking past him to all the other collegiate players who are either considering the same or who have done the same thing.
