Suarez Off The Board... Will The O's Finalize A Deal With Valdez?

I wanted Suarez. Very frustrated the O's wouldn't beat 5/130. That's nothing.

I'll say no, they don't. If they didn't beat this offer I'm skeptical they'll beat whatever the largest other offer is for Valdez.
A bit bummed they let Suarez go without beating that offer. Will forgive if they land Valdez, Gallen, or a big trade, but that's a good option off the table for a large but reasonable amount.

They had all that Bregman money laying around, taking up space.
Good news! I saw a dog today.

I have been skeptical of Suarez. I really didn't want him at 5 years.
I think Valdez will be a little more expensive. He is better. I would offer valdez 5 for 135 but not feel good about it.

I know the off season isn't over, but it's still disconcerting that the FA pitching market has mostly been locked up, and the O's haven't addressed their #1 off season priority. It's down to Valdez, or a trade.

God I hope not. And I seriously doubt they would.

I still think the off season is a solid B. Get a starter, get an A.

Get a real good starter, get an A. But agree.

No issues skipping Suarez.
Zero interest in Valdez. We have enough challenges.

Disappointed to say the least.
Have they had a "good" off season? I guess it depends a bit on your perspective. And still time to do so but its hard for me to give them anything more than a C+ thus far. What they have done has been fine. But they haven't addressed the #1 priority and they traded away a pitcher who had that as his ceiling for a one year rental.

I totally agree. They addressed nearly every need. And they may end up killing it with the addition of another starting pitcher. The fat lady isn't even warming up, yet.

She's warming up, I think. Pitchers and catchers in 4 weeks.

I'm good with a ST trade but not a FA signing.

Heres to hoping Valdez has scared off enough teams and we get him on a 4 year deal with an opt out.

4 weeks is a long time, you know how quickly things can move. I'm not without concern, but it would be really strange for Elias to make so many upgrades, and not address the big one.

I think they'll trade if they do anything. They have their core and need to decide which ones-or one- to keep. There's only so many cards to a deck
What I don't want though, is for them to spend 3/50 mill for some 30-sh mediocrity w/a lifetime 4.40 ERA.

Ideally, I'd rather they trade and save their bucks for a core guy.

With the new owners, I don't think we're in an either/or situation. For what it's worth, at this point, there isn't much to suggest the core guys want to extend.
