Not a lot of hot starts through the first couple of weeks. Irish is hitting. Sosa is hitting, not sure how much of a prospect he is. Figuroea is mashing, but he's old for Frederick.

Gibson has a couple solid starts in a row. Levi Wells looks good. Dzierwa and Quinn with great starts to their pro careers. Slow starts for De Leon and Mejia.

Sosa is a very legit power hitting corner OF prospect. Still early but the developments he needed to make are showing themselves.

Not worth debating anything with people who "know it all" already.

Is the position player side of the org in a good place right now??

Of course you can squint and find some things to like but come on. I get that you wont be overly critical, but to some degree call a spade a spade

"Elite talent pipeline."

Just more election day promises that didn't come to pass.

Good news! I saw a dog today.

Look. the accolades that the minor league portion and system got for 3 or 4 years was deserved. You cant take that away from them They had the #1 prospect 3 years in a row. Etc Etc. We cant poo poo that work they did to produce in the minors just because some of them are struggling in MLB. Book is not written on guys like Holliday and Sam. Even Mayo for that matter.

But where we are now isnt good. I dont expect 2021-2024 consistently. I get that it ebbs and flows. But this org has nearly nothing on the position side in AA or AAA. Ive heard the defense in the minors is as bad as it is in Baltimore. They lose games at an astonishing rate and have for at least 2 years now. Its not good.

Could not care less about farm system rankings. There's no trophies for that. Are you producing enough productive big league players to remain competitive as a mid-to-small market team? That's all that matters.

Exactly and when they are healthy theyve produced 3 AS caliber regulars. Just too early to say on some others like Sam and Holliday. And we cant forget they won a lot of games from May of 2022 through the end of 2024. They won games at the big league level for 2 years and then I have no clue really how to explain what has happened since.

What Im saying is I dont like where we are now. All the way around from top of the org to the minors. Im near ready to call for Elias. But I also think its only fair to acknowledge that not only was there success in the building up the orgs minor league profile but it was resulting in wins at the MLB level. For awhile.

Are you developing major league skills - or crushing minor league talent to inflate your farm status? You'd think they go hand in hand, but we've had a number of prospects come up and immediately begin "making adjustments" from the big league staff.

I don't know either. And what concerns me is that neither the players or front office have any answers either.

The simplest explanation would seem to be they came up and had some level of immediate success, the league adjusted, and they did not adjust back. If that's it, then maybe the issue is the continuing development they are/are not getting at the big league level.

I agree with this. It is concerning. Elias even admitted at the end of last year they were taken back and didnt have any answers

At the top of the farm system it is not. The only position players worth getting excited for in AA and AAA at the moment are EBJ, Estrada, and Thomas Sosa. Reed Trimble (when healthy) Ethan Anderson, Brandon Butterworth, and Anderson De Los Santos are solid prospects as well. Other than that its mostly dog shit/org filler. Below that I think its as deep as you could expect and has plenty of dudes with breakout potential.

When you graduate a bunch of guys and trade a bunch more its going to leave a gap which there definitely is. I just think its much more notable with the disappointing performances at the major league level.

Just checking in on some old friends...

deBrun has not debuted for TB (or anywhere professionally) yet.  Still recovering from the wrist surgery he had before the trade and is on the 60 day IL.

Bodine is repeating low-A and destroying it right now.  400/450/600 slash line.

Overn is off to a tepid start at AA.  260/330/370.

Forret has 14 K, 10 BB, 7 H and 3 HR allowed in 15 innings at AA.

The comp pick is #33

Slider and sweeper are elite with 120 psStuff+. Cutter above average at 103. Sinker and curve at 97. Enough to still be intrigued.

Bob, hearing anything on Keifer Lord's stuff? I can't imagine he'll be in Delmarva for long... he's been pretty dominant so far now that he appears to finally be healthy. Could be a quick riser.

It’s pretty nasty stuff. Fastball and curve the highlights. Can’t imagine he’s in Delmarva much longer.

He's a pure 1B/DH prospect so the bat has to carry him there but so far so good. Should be in AA.
