Such a weird team. Effort isn’t a problem. They appear to be incredibly poorly coached on the details. I don’t understand that if I’m being honest with you guys. I’ve been patient. I know we suck. It makes sense. This level of just consistently giving basketball games away with unforced errors is getting old.
It's not effort, agreed.
It's a combination of middlingly talent, and lack of time together.
4 players followed Buzz.
Fall camp didn't have much practice time together, continued into the season.
You aren't going to look like some well coached, cohesive team, with players in and out of the lineup, and without extensive practice time together.
If they have Payne last night, they win. Fact they had a chance to win last night without them, is mostly encouraging.
If they could keep everyone healthy from this point, and get Payne back... I think they'd just be a normal below average major conference team, capable of 8 conference wins.
If Payne misses significant time, winning any conference game will be an upset that particular night (I'm not saying they wouldn't win any conference games with out him... and some upsets would be mild... but all wins would be upsets).

This years Terps are not very talented. They are undersized and some need a serious strength program.
Success to me this year, is finding a few nuggets for next year and beyond and hopefully getting a couple wins in the conference. If it is only to build confidence.
The guards are just not ready for games against the squads Maryland has played this year and without Payne, they can not compete inside.
Have a recruiting class in the portal like they did in the freshman phase and things will brighten quickly.
Buzz is a strange guy but a good coach. Bottom line having 5 weeks to pout together a team is damn near Mission impossible.
Better times are ahead, IMO.

I haven’t heard an acceptable reason for the poor fundamentals. Time to clean it up. Agree the talent isn’t there. I don’t expect an efficient or overly coherent offense. I expect effort on defense, and to take care of the ball better. Basics. Start there. This isn’t okay. These guys are getting paid.
If your outmanned, and they are, that can look like a team that is poor on fundamentals. This team is out manned. No PG, and without Payne no inside presence, and guards who are physically over whelmed.
This would have been the year to play a cupcake non conference schedule and just try to survive in conference.
The Terps are just fitting in with the disaster that has been the local sports year.
I am convinced better times are coming and Buzz will win significantly at Maryland. Stay calm and just get through this year.

Your last sentence is a jolt. College sports has always been about money, but that line sums up how things have changed.

Do they have a true PG? Rice has barely played until recently, not sure how much he's practicing. Coit seems more of a 2 than a 1. Adams and Mills definitely aren't true PGs. Del Pino has barely played and is now hurt.
I think not having a true PG to run the offense has hurt a lot with regard to the turnovers.
100% correct IMO. They don't have a point guard, they do not shoot very well, no post player now that Payne is hurt and defensively they are physically over matched.
Again, my definition of success for this year, is to identify 2 or 3 players, who can be good players on next years team.
