No draft pick lost for Alonso, since he opted out.

The Mets could not offer Alonso because they did so a year ago. Players can only be issued a Qualifying Offer 1 time now under the current CBA. Bregman and Bellinger are other guys that were ineligible and as such have no compensation attached.

I'm sure that factored into their decision to pursue him hard.

You're missing my point. It's not that they tanked to rebuild. Do what you feel like you need to do, to create that steady pipeline of talent and win. My point is that the rebuild should yield better results than being the 7th worst team in the sport, within the same span of time as it took to rebuild.

You know things can happen during a single year. There were 3 winning seasons and two playoff appearances up until last year. The rebuild has worked even though they fell flat last year. If they follow it up this year with another poor to mediocre campaign I can better understand any complaining. I expect last year to be an outlier and not the start of a new trend. They will win in 2026

I agree with you, but it's because Elias is acting with more urgency for the first time since he was hired. Be honest, when the O's won 101 and made the playoffs, did you say, This is great, but next year they'll fade down the stretch. And in 2 seasons, they'll be vying for 1:1 again.

Good news! I saw a dog today.

I understood it was possible. I was expressing concern about some things in 2023. I dont get all the angst about 2025 at this point. You certainly werent  open to the possibility that the FO/new ownership could change things up this offseason

Me personally? Yes, I was open to the possibility. Because Rubenstein commented that there were no financial restraints. But I wasn't certain that Elias would do something like chase Schwarber and/or Alonso. I was definitely in the "I'll believe it when I see it" camp.
