If there’s one position they could afford an injury like this on the defensive side of the ball, it’s defensive end. However, this now puts a ton of pressure on Zion Elee to produce immediately. Have to hope he’s legit, and that he and Sidney Stewart can stay healthy all year.

Former West Virginia DB Jordan Scruggs has officially committed to and signed with Maryland, after winning his eligibility case against the NCAA earlier today. He's played for a different school in each season since 2021, from Washburn to Central Missouri to Hutchinson Community College to South Alabama to West Virginia to Maryland. He recorded 32 tackles, two pass breakups, and one interception for the Mountaineers last year.

WR Josiah Teasley has been suspended from the team indefinitely after being arrested and convicted in July on charges of second-degree assault. He allegedly punched his ex-girlfriend in the face, threw her to the ground, and choked her while repeatedly slamming her head into the ground. He also reportedly threatened to distribute nude photographs of her on social media following this assault.

He was sentenced to three years in prison, but the entire sentence was suspended and he was ordered to 18 months of supervised probation.

Teasley becomes the second Maryland football player to be suspended from the team following criminal charges over the last few months, though the other (Dontay Joyner) was reinstated earlier this week.

I suspect the suspension is just a procedural thing while the university reviews his case, because that’s gotta be a violation of the student code of conduct that should get him dismissed from the school. And considering he’s already been convicted, this really shouldn’t take long at all.

 

And if he’s not kicked out of UM that says as much about the whole damn school as it does the football program.

It's unclear when Maryland became aware of the charges and suspended him, but they were filed in Montgomery County. It was only until recently that a reporter (Michael Howes, Baltimore Sun) noticed and began investigating it. And I actually misspoke earlier, he's still on the team but won't be participating in games for an indefinite period of time.

When was this arrest? Timeline here is confusing.

Was this a trial conviction or some sort of plea deal?

Even for a system with questionable ethics its baffling to me that it could get this far and he's still on the team unless there is some major mitigation here that I can't think of.
