He and Flaherty seem similar. Flaherty played in MLB. This guy flamed out in AAA. Again, my one yellow flag would be Posey passing on him

Posey took over as POBO in September 2024, Albernaz left SFO after the '23 season to go to Cleveland.

Actually saw his name in the MLBTR highlights of the Nationals search (which included Hyde)...was going to add it to the other thread (like the Twins discussion)....just as guys that were getting interviews.

Time in Cleveland seems interesting enough, don't like he was a coach under Kapler for 4 years in SF.

Haven't thought the manager was the problem, but whatever, if he's the guy, let's go.

Until 20 mins ago I don’t know this person existed. So I’ll reserve judgment until he does something that pissed me off lol

That should take at least another 20 minutes. :)

It’s the offseason. Things should be ok till March.

I know but he worked closely with Posey in '20 and '21 while Posey was a player

Just what I've read about this guy and heard him speak about over the past hour or so of digging.... he's gonna win.

Albernaz was a candidate last year for both Florida and the White Sox's managerial jobs, but withdrew his name from consideration in both cases. Sounds like this guy was sought-after enough to know he'd eventually get a big league managing job and wasn't going to simply take the first opportunity that might present itself.

It's encouraging that the Orioles weren't the last team to hire a manager this offseason. You never want to be the last team to hire.

Like what I am reading about him. Do the O’s continue with the 6 man rotation like Cleveland? Interesting, and man if there is a talented team that needs to nail fundamentals it’s the O’s!

Could be fine, could be good.

If it was going to be a first time Manager, would have gone with Manso.

Never heard of this guy before he was named (can't believe we didn't get reporting on his interviews...). Glad we didn't go with someone anywhere near in-house.

Interested to hear about the coaching staff. The more turnover the better.

Other than bringing back Hyde, I think Mansolino would've been the wrongest choice they could've made.

At least with this hire, or basically any hire other than Mansolino, Mabry or Britton, there is some hope alive that Elias will have recognized problems and be working to correct them. I don't think we've gotten many glimpses of that being the case so any small ones I'm holding on to tightly.

The team is going to bounce back, and Albernaz will get more credit than he deserves imo.

But whatever, fresh start, new page for everyone. Fresh eyes.
That's not a bad thing.

If they bounce back because they return to playing sharp like they did until the inexplicable downturn in June of '24, then he'll deserve that credit. As will whatever player leaders help lead that return to quality effort and focus.
