I am also very curious about the signing of CJ Gardner-Johnson.   He had a career high 6 interceptions twice playing with Philadelphia, 3 one year with NO, no more than 1 for anyone else.   He played his first three years with NO, then 1 with Philly, 1 with Det, 1 again with Philly, and then the first part of this year with Houston.  When a player bounces around to so many teams that raises a red flag.

He seems to wear out his welcome fairly quick and is a player who kind of does his own thing.  He was let go by Houston because of his criticism of teammates and his refusal to take ownership in breakdowns occurring the Houston secondary.  He also was responsible for a number of game changing plays.  That per a report from KPRC in Houston.  This does not seem to be a player who will mesh well with Harbaugh.  Reminds me of Earl Thomas.  It will be interesting to see what happens.

Also expecting CJGJ to be this year's Diontae Johnson much moreso than this year's Marcus Peters. But worth a shot.

I guess that is possible, because he has a rep of being a loose cannon, but he makes plays and plays with fire, so like you said, give it a shot.  We could use a few players who play pissed off.

Also get a 2026 5th for a 2027 7th. And Gilman makes 10M less base so some cap savings.

I wonder at what point they decide to be sellers.

They are 2 games off the division, so not yet.  Frankly, I hope they double down and stay in it.  We have another team in town that likes to sell.  One is enough.

I guess you can't call Oweh a bust after last year but overall, he was hardly overwhelming. He was yet another project that took forever to develop. Good luck to him but his departure is nothing to lose sleep over.

I don't think he was anywhere near a bust.  He played 4 years here on good teams and contributed every year.  He was better than most gave him credit for but not as good as all of us had hoped.

Another safety?

Much needed IMO.  I said early in the year we were very inexperienced at safety.  We had Hamilton, who is a stud, then Starks who is very talented but had not played a snap in the NFL before the Bills game, thena second year guy, Kane and a UDFA to fill out the safety depth.

I think getting Gardner-Johnson and Gilman allows them to move Hamilton all over the field.  It was broke and they are trying to fix it.

I'm all for trying to fix it, but I don't see how making a DL that has 6 sacks total, 2 of the from a guy out for the year, weaker does that.  I don't think the back end was all that bad, and pretty much all I heard all off season was how much better the secondary was going to be and how deep the defense was.  I think the back end is bad for two reasons:  The DL is terrible, and the DC has no clue.  Fix those two problems and the back end would look so much better.

LB is kinda a problem too, and if Hamilton is permitted to play more like a LB that helps the middle.

But basically there’s just too many problems right now and a scheme that seems to exacerbate problems rather than mask them.

We might be parsing words but Oweh was a disappointment for a 1st round pick. While he contributed over the years, in that he played, he was never an impact player, particularly commensurate to where he was drafted. He produced more like a 4th/5th round pick.

I think if a 1st round pick is a success you should gladly give them a 2nd contract (so you have them for like 8+ years) or you're disappointed that you can't quite do that for financial reasons. Oweh is clearly neither, so he's a disappointment. Kinda like Queen, he was fine, but not what you hoped he would be.

I think that is a hard take but they moved on, so I will too

I'd agree with this. It's why some are starting to look at EDC's recent drafts. When you start missing on 1st and 2nd round picks it hurts with roster construction. Those that can get production on cheaper contracts allow teams to spend smartly elsewhere.

He started in 25 of the 67 games he played. He was seen a player with great physical skills that needed to mature and develop. It looked like he was starting to get home on his pressures last season with 10 sacks but had little production to start the season. Sure pressure rates are a thing but impacting games is another.  I get why they moved on and he was most likely going to test the market next season anyway.

Oweh has been better than a 4th or 5th round pick.  IMO people are looking at the drafts because we are 1-4.  The drafts IMO have been good.

This swoon feels like the Eagles at the end of the 23 season.  Everything went wrong, the injuries piled up and they crashed.

I think we are in a similar slump now.  I think we need to fix the DC job, get healthy and try to get the wheels back on the cart as the season goes on.

The last 3 games have been bad, but this is not a bad team.  Weather the storm!

I think we resemble an Eagles team also, but the one that came to mind was the "dream team" a few years ago that wound up being underwhelming in every way. Totally overhyped before crashing back to reality.

This is about to be a 1-5 team with almost no hope for the postseason. Big changes in personnel are needed.

That was the team I was talking about.

I think there will be changes, because of all the free agents, and the defense needs to be fixed, but this is not a team that needs a tear down.

As for the playoffs, I don't even want to talk about that right now, but the  division is down.  The Ravens could catch Pittsburgh.

I was referring to the 2011 team that went 8-8. Is that the one you meant?

Well he was just released, so gone even faster than Johnson, ha.

Agent said it was amicable mutual decision per Schefter, after the trade for Gilman he wanted a clearer path to PT somewhere else.
