I don't expect much player-wise. Manager is probably the most important decision of the offseason anyway. Regardless of what we do player-wise, we're going to need the players already here to improve next year, and improve drastically, or we're looking at another 75-win season.

Manager and coaching staff as a whole is the most important decision.

I like that they hold a presser day after the season ends. Feel like that was never a thing through most of the Angelos era.

Pete Alonso opted out of his contract. He seems exactly like the kind of bat and player the O's really need. But as a 1B/DH type, he just doesn't fit the O's needs on the other side of the game, without trading away enough guys to make it work.
Good news! I saw a dog today.

Listening to the presser now. GM search isnt a priority. Could be filled this offseason or not at all. Manager process is the priority and underway now

Tells us how important they consider the GM, which we probably already would have guessed.

I like the way Mike is framing the GM position. Look, we all know its his show to run. He is saying he wants looking to add someone he thinks is talented in the baseball world for that position. They could easily make a promotion from within and give someone that job title. I think thats what a lot of fans thought it would be when they heard he had a new title. He seems to be saying he wants to bring someone in from outside the org if he is going to fill that role

He won't be offered what he wants here in Baltimore. End of conversation.

Sure sounds like he doesnt plan on trading Adley. Said he is their #1 C. Im sure things could change if they get an offer they love but it seems like Adley will still be here.

If you get Alonso, you trade Mountcastle and/or Mayo
That's a no brainer

I know, but if we limit the conversations to just the moves that are likely, that wouldn't be very fun. It may all just be fantasy league type talk, but it's more enjoyable than discussing the Charlie Mortons of free agency.

Well, at least we can say Elias comes correct. It sounds like he's not pretending that the GM job will have autonomy. If I was a prominent GM candidate, I wouldn't even interview for the job. No GM wants someone else to hire their manager.

Or to pick their players. I guess it'll be like Friedman and Gomes in LA, however it is they get along, though Friedman seems to still be the guy.

I heard that they've been turned down by several candidates already. People understand what they're coming here to do.

No serious GM candidates will want to take a glorified assistant GM job unless they get passed over the initial rush of hires. Not even sure how many teams have GM openings.
