Following their season-opening win over Florida Atlantic on Saturday, Maryland will have a short week before facing off against Northern Illinois on Friday night. The Huskies squeaked out a 19-17 win over Holy Cross in their first game of the year. Maryland leads the all-time series 2-1, with their last matchup coming in 2004.

 

Maryland opens as 16.5-point favorites in this game, and ESPN gives them an 85.9% chance to win.

We won't know anything official about injuries until Locksley addresses the media (tomorrow, I believe). General consensus is that Gilchrist's injury is likely significant.

 

Speaking of injuries, it's worth noting that Maryland already had a fairly full injury report heading into the Florida Atlantic game:

• RB Bud Coombs
• OL Michael McMonigle
• OL Davon Watkins
• DL Neeo Avery
• DL Bryce Jenkins
• DL Delmar White
• LB Keyari James
• DB Judah Jenkins

As far as I know, Coombs is the only one expected to miss the entire season.

Locksley announced today during his media availability that QB Justyn Martin and OL Jaylen Gilchrist are officially out for this game. They're both undergoing additional medical tests this week to determine the severity of their injuries.
