Flaherty has/had more name recognizition as a future coach than the guys Nats and Padres hired. He certainly wouldn't have turned down  jobs in SD or Atl.  Can see where he would have done it with teams like Minn, Was, Col. Still think he's going to be a good manager but I dont sit in on interviews. Maybe he's not good at them. We also dont know exactly how many interviews he had this cycle.

Mansolino named 3B coach in Atlanta. Best to him,

Good for Tony.

He is going to a good organization and a team like the Orioles looking to rebound.

Maybe your gut feeling was just indigestion.

Ketel Marte may be available. Gonna be 32 next year. Has a contract through 2031. Has had some injuries. Would love to have him for the next few years but back end of the deal probably wont be pretty. Likely will take a decent amount to get a deal done.

Also, Senga is supposedly available. The Mets letting a SP go is weird and a bit of a red flag. Ks fell off hard. Walks a bit too many. Wont throw a ton of innings.  But has put up good numbers. Only 15 mil a year for the next two years.

It's a lot of years for Marte but the total is really reasonable.  $105M over the next 6, player option to take it up to 7/$119M.  Bregman would cost more than that for 3 years (and you'll need to go more than 3).  If someone tells me they think he can stick at 2B for the next few years, then I'm 100% in on that and would go as far as to dangle Holliday to get it done if that's what it takes.

Senga yes if he's the 2nd of two SP acquired.  Not if he's the one guy.

Holliday was who I was thinking of dangling. Marte is damn good player. Its just that you start to worry about 32 yr olds

40 man additions to be protected from the R5 draft have to be made by tomorrow. Roster currently sits at 40 so if the Os protect anyone else they will have to drop some players currently on the 40 man. Im not expecting any more additions. Nunez has been the only addition so far.

Fabian stalled out at AAA, which isn't good when his question is whether he can hit. I guess they think Pedro Leon is better, seems like same kind of guy.

Willems is another name I'm aware of but I doubt he would stick a whole year, it's still not clear he's a C I think.

Pitchers? Weston, Pham, Gillies? Honestly if they thought that highly of them they could have gotten a shot in 2025 given the BP we had.

Phelan and his crew named some pitchers they predicted we would keep. Weston was one of them. I dont see it. Hes not the type other teams are likely interested in drafting

They do seem to pick pitchers out of nowhere sometimes. Felix, Gillaspie, Denoyer, Stroud, I don't think most people really expected them to be protected at the time (except maybe OTV).

I think at least three players are added today. I'll say Fabian, Weston, and Baumler.

Im rejuvenated for 2026. Even going into 2025 I was kinda apathetic. Not the case this year. New blood helps a lot

Im rejuvenated for 2026.

Happy for you but I need to see some moves to upgrade this team's weaknesses.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

Moves will be made. But even if they underwhelm I'll be ready to go. What the new blood gets out of the players already here is going to be the biggest factor in 2026.

The best chance for this team to rebound for the 2026 season was always going to be the resurgence of the talent already in house. It doesn't matter what acquisitions are made, if the core already here doesn't perform better everything is doomed.

Absolutely. Add 15 WAR in free agency and we're still barely a playoff team unless guys who were already here improve.

I think we reasonably need both things to challenge for the division title and pennant. Meaningful FA or trade additions and internal improvement or resurgence.
