I came down on the Baz deal being good for both sides but still they paid a heavy price. He needs to pitch like a MOR or better guy

Yes, Cowser may also be an option. And yes playing a decent CF would huge. I have to think they believe he is at least an adequate defender in the OF. The difference between being just a uti inf and being a super uti that can play anywhere is big
I think he played 17 games in CF. Alexander hits left handed pitching so he could spell Cowser in CF against lefties. I think our outfield defense is going to be a problem.
Just one other thought, I wonder if Alexander could be the emergency catcher. If our backup catcher is going to be our regular DH, that feels like it could cause problems in a few games.

If he can't play SS in a limited backup capacity then I don't like the decision. I think Holliday lost his SS eligibility last year. As much as I love having a LF who can backup CF and a 2B/3B who can backup SS, I think Holliday has suffered the same defensive fate as Westburg and is only an emergency SS, which is even less frequent than the few days a year Gunnar takes off.
I thought Holliday was comfortable at SS last year in the little bit he played there. God forbid something happens to Gunnar, Jackson would do fine there IMO.

It will be interesting to see how much time Alexander gets in CF in ST.

If I had to give Elias a grade on the off season as of today, it would be a c or maybe a b-.
I think this rotation is better than 2025 but the priority was a TOR starter (via either free agency or trade) and, as of today, he has not gotten it done.
I hope I'm wrong

It's worth noting, when you hold an opinion that is at odds with everyone else, that doesn't make everyone else wrong. It just makes you Dude. Be careful. Because, like him, you know nothing more than the rest of us.
For some reason many of you guys seem to want to continue this...it's fine, it's the internet, but there's plenty of scoreboard.

If Elias were to announce any injuries, fingers crossed, wouldnt that usually be Tuesday or Wed? Pitchers and catchers report tomorrow.

I would be quite surprised if it's Gallen. If they thought he was a strong bounce back candidate, they'd have felt he was a huge value and would've prioritized him. Since he's not already signed, I'll assume they don't think he's a strong bounce back candidate, and therefore they won't think he's any better than Giolito or Bassitt or whoever else and those guys don't cost a pick.

I think Gallen's options are pretty limited right now. He might have been better off accepting the DBacks' qualifying offer. A shorter deal seems imminent, but he also has compensation attached. That's probably scaring off a lot of teams.

Doubt Mayo or Mountcastle is moved. At least not to anytime early in ST. Do we think theyd ever try Mayo at 3b again or has the ship sailed fot good
I think any thoughts of using Mayo at multiple positions ended when they acquired Alexander.
Mayo may be able to work his way into being a usable third baseman, but I don't know that time is now.
I tjink our BP is weak, and I could see Mounty or Mayo being dealt for help.

Word is that Mayo has been down in Sarasota for weeks, along with Pete Alonso, working out at 1B, 3B, and RF.

For us, it’s a third round pick. Not the end of the world.

I think you could put a price tag of $10-12M on the value of that pick, using a 10X slot value estimation. Maybe we're a bit too deep in the draft for that approximation to apply, so scale it back a bit if you like.

Mayo is going to have to hit, pure and simple. Otherwise, he'll either be moved, sent back to Norfolk or be resigned to a sparingly used back-up role. They know what they have with Mountcastle. With Alonso now an everyday fixture, both of them are going to have to produce to stay relevant.
