If Hunter goes than I have a hard time making the case for the following players:

Arrieta: I think he should be a power reliever/closer.
Matusz: half of a good season doesn't make a career.
Wada: More likely to be a reliever if he signed anywhere else.

I think that the rotation ends up being:

Hammel
Hunter
Britton
Chen
Wada/Arrieta/Eveland/Bergesen

He will be the OD starter.

That would be really interesting. I would be excited because he's one of my favorite players, and I'm going to Opening Day. But boy is it a sad state of affairs when Tommy Hunter could potentially be your OD starter.

I think Hunter will be the OD starter. His only competition may be a healthy Arrietta.

Looking at Hunter's stats, he would be our best pitcher of the cavalry, by far. Granted he's had some struggles and injuries, like Matusz...well, like all of them...but I think if he were a homegrown guy he would be much more revered around here. He's 25. Throws strikes. He's basically Brad Bergesen close to what we all hoped Bergesen could be.

In a perfect world, he'd be in the bullpen, but this is not a perfect world by any means. Hunter is our best pitcher on Feb 17th. That could change and change fast, but it is what it is. And he could get even better if he's in better shape like everyone says he is.
I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

CSN Baltimore: Hunter interview (video)

Not something you can quantify (or that particularly matters), but he does continue to come across as a likable guy.

Via MLB.com:

"Tommy Hunter (lower back) came through three innings in a "B" game on Sunday with no problems, and he will pitch four innings Friday in either a Minor League game or the Orioles' game."

Arrieta out of the pen? You are crazy. He has the best "stuff" out of anyone on the staff, other than maybe JJ.

Hunter will be the OD starter, Arrieta "#2", Britton if he is healthy (questionable), Hammel, Chen.

The rest of those guys will get their opportunities, especially if Britton can't stay on the field and Matusz struggles in AAA.

MASN / Kubatko: Hunter says, "I'm ready to go."
http://www.masnsport...eady-to-go.html

"Tommy Hunter threw four innings and 60 pitches yesterday against the Boston Red Sox's Single-A team at Twin Lakes Park."

That was good to see. This puts him right on track to be ready to start the year.

Hunter will be in the rotation. Ever since he came over from Texas, everyone has gotten the feeling that Hunter is a "Buck guy." As I've pointed out before, Hunter seems like the kind of fellow who is going to put up a 4.50 ERA whether he has nine nagging injuries or is completely healthy. I do not think highly of him as a starter -- pretty much a back-end guy best suited to eat innings for a team until they can find someone better -- but I do like his stuff out of the 'pen. However, I would not be surprised one bit if he started opening day, although that's a fairly meaningless distinction.

Hunter needs to follow-up Arrieta's outing with a strong performance of his own tomorrow.

I am starting to come around more on Hunter.

I have been saying I felt he was better in the pen and maybe he still is...but I have a feeling that he could be a solid 4th starter in this league.

One thing I tend to underestimate about him is that he is still young.

He's still young and he's had too many battles with injuries. If he can stay healthy for us for couple of years I think he could definitely add some value to the team. I still think it was a steal to get Hunter for Koji.

Coming off of his 7 inning, 6 hits, 0 er, 1 bb, 3 k win vs. the Twins; Hunter will get the opportunity to end the O's 3 game losing streak in Toronto.

"Orioles starter Tommy Hunter is still dealing with lingering discomfort in his left side — a carryover from a back strain he had this spring — although he said Friday that he doesn’t feel anything when on the mound."

Hunter certainly isn't flashy, but theres a lot to like for sure. Its easy to forget he's only 25, but has probably the most significant experience on the staff and started in the ALCS against the Yankees two years ago. He throws strikes and knows how to win, with good defense behind him I think he's a solid 4th starter. I think we have to be pleased sith what he showed this first month.

Oh, and it's nice to have a Bama alumni on the staff.
