"College" sports (at least bball and football) have become a joke.

We'll see how I feel come next football season, but honestly I feel like I'm kinda out until they fix this transfer portal thing.

And it's not really sour grapes, I'm pretty "meh" on the whole Willard situation.  If some of the rumors are true about the way he's handled things the past week or so then I'm fine to move on from him, but the constant re-loading of rosters takes away so much of the enjoyment of college sports.

Im with you. I know some really get into the college atmosphere and I get it to a degree. For me, you've got all this portal nonsense and the quality of talent vs pro football or pro basketball is inferior. Ill just stick to watching the better players play.

The tough thing for me is Terps basketball is the first sport I got into following hardcore when Joe and Keith were freshmen in '93-94. Baltimore didnt have football yet. I watched the Os and was a fan but I wasnt hardcore into it. That Georgetown game changed my level of sports fandom for decades to come.

Definitely less enjoyable with one-year mercenaries. I've loved having Queen and enjoyed the transfer guards as well, but doesn't compare to seeing the development and culmination of Reese's time here.

Can't argue that the flexibility and rules aren't good things for the players and frankly the previous rules were borderline unconstitutional. But I do think there is a happy medium. Now that money is involved, should be a way to make multiple year commitments that bind both school and player. Options, bonuses, retainers, escalators...think it'll become more complex to keep track of but best case scenario will be when you know you've got a kid for a while without feeling that you're taking advantage.

The joke about sports fans rooting for laundry feels especially relevant to the current state of college basketball.

Sounds like Buzz Williams is the guy Haynie (via Cavanaugh, don't shoot me I'm just regurgitating) was talking about yesterday.  For whatever it's worth or not worth.

If it’s Buzz I’m putting it in his contract to ditch the suit vests. Dude can coach though.

Villanova probably promised Willard he could use the difference in revenue sharing if he stretched it out over the weekend for "making a difficult decision with my family" or some other BS.

Could’ve been the uncertainty with that conference at the time. Not sure.

I’d pin KW down today, make him give a yes or no answer, and if it’s no, fire him for cause.

But that’s the kind of conviction, clear eyed killer instinct the school just doesn’t have. Any place with any sort of pride would just can his ass right now for the enormous distractions he brought to their Sweet 16 run. It’s unacceptable, and Maryland should be clear about that being unacceptable instead of being the cucks that they have proven to be.

What cause? Think you're gonna have a hard time with that one legally.

I think you can link the teams performance last night with the distraction caused by him seeking other employment. Seeking other employment is not cause. It causing distractions and harming performance, is. It was their worst loss of the season, and there’s plenty of documentation of the distractions. Missing the team dinner, etc. Regardless, make him fight it legally and return the favor of distraction while he’s at Villanova. Be an alpha. Have expectations and stick to them. Maryland shouldn’t tolerate this.
