Who cares
Will we see anyone from this team on the roster next year? Lukas Sotell?

Well, Willard wasn’t expected to do much with his first team coming off a losing season and got them to the Round of 32. But it’s hard to feel optimistic right now.

What a devastating turn of events the past week or so. So much optimism for the future of the program to this.
Only Maryland athletics can manage to ruin a promising run before it's actually been ruined. The air rushed out of this balloon like 2 days ago. The game tonight was just icing on a crap cake.

Athletic Director?
Willard?
If Willard stays, he will have say on the AD obviously.
If he leaves, will MD look to hire a GM for the program as other programs are doing?

A dedicated general manager was reportedly one of the things that Willard wanted and the university had agreed to. So would assume they make that move for next season.MD...

If it's Willard or whoever...
Trying to retain Gillespie, Rice, Palmer, Gapare... maybe DHS, and Long... probably not Pierce, and Stephens.
If it's Willard, would expect incoming Freshman Chris Jeffrey to still come.
If Willard jumps, Jeffrey probably leaves.
We've seen the rumors of Gillespie and Rice following Willard to Villanova if that happens.
There are going to be 1,000 players in the portal.
If you retain Gillespie and Rice... you need a 3,4,5.
Maybe it will be like Louisville this '24-'25 season with everyone on the roster being portal additions.

Seen Buzz Williams' name thrown around a few places, in addition to Skinn and Simpkins. He currently has a very reasonable buyout ($1 million after April 1st).

At the end of the '23-'24 season, MD had finished 16-17 overall, 7-13 in the Big Ten... horrible season... apathy setting in.
Queen honored his commitment.
Reese returned.
Willard was able to add Gillespie, Rice, and Miguel, and get excellent production out of each of them.
Tonight sucked, but the year was fun.
Basketball in-general allows for a team to really change in a year.
Even moreso with the portal.
If Willard wants to stay, that's fine.
If he wants to leave, that's fine too.
There are 363 other D1 programs.
Even with the questions of commitment from the University and the Athletic Department; MD is a great job.
Most of those 363 other D1 Head Coaches would kill to be at MD.
Go find a quality coach who will value being at MD.
Retain Gillespie and Rice.
Attack the portal hard.
