CBS Sports: MLB Power Rankings: Dodgers at No. 1 to start 2025, plus what we're looking forward to as hope springs eternal

Orioles 9th) What I'm most looking forward to: The Gunnar Henderson encore. The only Orioles players ever to post a 9-WAR season are Cal Ripken Jr. (twice) and Henderson (last season). George Sisler also did it once when this franchise was the St. Louis Browns. That's how rare it is. Henderson is only heading to his age-24 season, too.

9th might be generous, but I think I'm lower on the rotation than they are. If I were a betting man I'd be betting this is the year Grayson's arm explodes. The hardest throwers in the league almost always have it happen within a few seasons. The consistency is incredible

I think Elias is playing a somewhat risky game if he intends on going into the season with the current pitching staff. Not only because of injury potential but because it may not be very good performance wise. For this team to compete for the post season, it's regular line-up that is going to have to be better than they were in the 2nd half last year. Not only offensively but fundamentally, they were not playing well for several months. I also think Hyde might be on a short leash after how they treaded water down the stretch. 2023 almost seems like an anomaly to me now.

5. Orioles (7)
Grayson Rodriguez’s right elbow injury, which will keep him out for the beginning of the season after he got a cortisone shot, is the sort of thing that is going to make Orioles fans particularly nervous and frustrated. The rotation, a source of concern already, is now even thinner.

If only Elias had the pieces to add an arm. If only.

O’s coming in at #20 on ESPN’s power rankings.

The Orioles' chief concern entering the season was their starting pitching, and it's proved to be a very real problem -- one without an obvious solution. They have the highest starters' ERA in baseball by nearly a half-run. Charlie Morton, their $15 million free agent addition, has a league-worst 10.89 ERA in 20⅔ innings through five starts. Dean Kremer has a 6.84 ERA after yielding eight extra-base hits to the Nationals on Tuesday. Cade Povich has a 6.38 ERA. Zach Eflin, their Opening Day starter, was put on the IL because of a lat strain after three starts. Grayson Rodriguez and Albert Suarez began the season on the IL because of shoulder injuries and their returns aren't imminent. This is a weakness that could bury Baltimore in the standings before long. -- Castillo

Frankly I am surprised they are as high as 20.

Right now the Orioles are just a bad team.

The Rangers finished 20th last year in overall standings and had 78 wins. So I guess my updated prediction of 70 wins is a bit harsh. Oh well.

I don't know who would care about power rankings.  They're 9-14.  That tells you all you need to know.

What are the chances they sell at the deadline?

Who would they even be able to deal to acquire someone who could help as early as next year?
