I think having expectations, and challenging players should happen. Has to happen to be successful.
And I think if players can't handle that and move on, that's how it goes.
I just question how many players today want that.
But past those larger questions... and sticking more to Willard... what leads you to thinking he's too much of a players coach?
Wondering if there are things I've missed.
On one hand, the defense puts forth strong effort, that's been a staple under Willard - that speaks to toughness/effort. OTOH, last year they were somewhere around 160th or so in the amount of turnovers they committed. That's been cleaned up a bit this year. What stuck with me a little recently was after the Christmas break, he admitted he gave them way too much time off. They came out of that with a couple losses. Just baffling to me. He's been doing this a long time. I think I'm probably being a bit hard on him, but the general vibe I get is he's a bit too much on the player side of things.
