Following their win over Minnesota, Maryland will travel north to Evanston for a matchup against Northwestern on Thursday night. The Wildcats currently hold a record of 10-6 (1-4), and are in the midst of a three-game losing streak. Chris Collins is in his 12th season as their head coach, and has led them to the NCAA Tournament's Second Round two years in a row.
Northwestern is led by an excellent trio of upperclassmen: Nick Martinelli, Brooks Barnhizer, and Jalen Leach. They combine to average 52 points and 17 rebounds per game, with Barnhizer nearly averaging a double-double. The problem for Collins' team is that the rest of their squad has been very unproductive this season. No other player averages more than seven points per game, and the entire team has struggled with their offensive efficiency.
Maryland is 12-6 all-time against Northwestern, but the Wildcats have won four of the last six meetings.
