RIP, former Oriole Merv Rettenmund. Spent his first six seeasons with the Orioles before being traded to the Reds in a deal that brought pitcher Ross Grimsley to Baltimore. Had a career 133 OPS+ as an Oriole.

Was 81.

I forgot we got Ross Grimsley for Merv Rettenmund. That trade worked out pretty well for the Orioles.

The image I'll always remember of Merv is that of him dejectedly trudging back to the dugout after making the final out of the 1971 World Series against the Pirates. Not a position any player relishes, but somebody has to be the last out.

Yeah but didn't he also hit a big HR in game 5 of the 1970 series?

Yep. I think he hit another in the 1971 Series against Pittsburgh. Game 2, I believe.
