IMS: A new NIL era is coming, with eight-figure salary caps and massive rosters. How will Maryland sports survive?

Good stuff from Jeff here, pertaining to both the football and men's basketball programs. Fortunately, it sounds like Maryland won't have any issues raising the $20.5 million "salary cap" available to athletic departments during the 2025-26 season. They're expecting approximately $5-8 million to be spent on men's basketball, with most of the remaining budget being allotted to football and a small portion to non-revenue sports.

None of the guys getting remotely significant NIL money should be getting a dime of scholarship money. Pay your own bills and free up that scholarship money for other kids or teams in the athletic department.

I think most, if not every university lets their employees enroll in classes and degree programs free of charge....that was the case for me and everyone else I worked with at Johns Hopkins. Why should athletes be any different? (aside from the fact they are forced to be enrolled in order to earn their money)

UMTerps: $18M Gift to Endow UMD Sports Management Program, Support Scholarships

https://umterps.com/...holarships.aspx

A trailblazing marketing executive with the Chicago Bulls has committed to give $18 million to his alma mater, the University of Maryland, to support the athletics program that launched his career—and the new sports management program that he hopes will launch many others.

The university announced on Tuesday that Stephen Schanwald '77 has directed $10 million to Maryland Athletics in support of top priorities for the athletic department, and $8 million to the Robert H. Smith School of Business to endow its Sports Management Program and to provide scholarships for students taking courses in it.

This is now the second consecutive year that the athletic department has received a donation of $10 million.
