Nightengale also reported there are rumors the Cardinals could pursue Pete Alonso to take over for Paul Goldschmidt. That doesn't sound like a team looking to clip coupons.

Yeah signing Alonso would mean they're not exactly rebuilding. Though they could still look to lower immediate term payroll even while adding other pieces.

I would be calling about Gray. And I think they will move him. But if you find out they aren't interested then of course move to other options.

MLBTR also seems to expect a Cardinals selloff. Lots of Cards at the top of their recently released trade candidates article.

Is Bradish back next season? I know if he is he’ll be on a pitch count but will he be, not sure.

Late season, if at all. Likely not to expect anything from him until 2026. Wells could be back earlier.

I'd be on board for $31 million per, but I'd rather keep it to 5-6 years.

I want the new ownership to prove me wrong. But at 59 years old, I'll be shocked if the O's offer something close to that in my lifetime. I'm sure I have PTSD from the old regime. I would love to be wrong though.

Let's say I'm wrong and that's the limit of his market.  I think that's wildly wrong, but fine.  When is he signing that deal?

They'll lie and do whatever else about the market and would play that type of a contract out until March.  Do you want to put your offseason plans on hold waiting to see if his market collapses and he's forced to sign a reasonable contract during ST?

I don't pine for things I can't have.  I've already shared a much more aggressive contract than you are proposing that would guarantee him 250M.  I think the chance of him signing that now is 0%.

Move on to the things you can do.

Always a chance to convince a player otherwise, but report is that Gray has indicated he'd like to stay in St. Louis.

White Sox want position players in return for Crochet. Wondering if Kjerstad or Mayo or Basallo are enough to be the top piece (without taking 2 of them). I'd pull the trigger on any of them plus more for Crochet.

If they do that they need to have an extension in place.

However, I'm sure they'll want Holliday, Mayo, and probably 2 or 3 other lower level guys also.

I'd love to have him but he has under 90 innings in the 4 years prior to 2024. Maybe he was unlucky, or maybe this year was the fluke. I want more track record when paying top dollar (though I recognize nothing is really certain with pitching). So really it depends on the price.

Would rather attack pitching in FA. At least as the primary option. Or a trade where we arent g8ving up a substantial prospect(s).

Agree, I wouldn't quite say the cupboard is bare, but we've traded away and graduated a lot in the past year/year and half, depleted a lot of depth. Paying only money for upgrades would be nice.
