Don't take this as a criticism of the article, because you're largely reporting what power rankings from other outlets are giving us, but despite being a Ravens/Lamar stan I'm getting a little tired of in-season proclamations that we're one of the best x teams in the NFL/conference only for us to lay an egg in the playoffs.

They are one of the best teams and favorites for the Super Bowl. :)

But beyond that...obviously an in the moment power ranking isn't going to account for any previous post season you've deemed unsuccessful.

Basically you are saying power rankings, dvoa, etc = dumb...and just prove what you are in January. I get that pov to a degree .. but maybe try and enjoy having a team that's regularly good and in the hunt?

Hard to say best when KC is 5-0, but they are in the mix.  The defense is way below championship level.  So much so that the Ravens brought in an "advisor" to work with Zach Orr.  In other words, Orr is way over his head and we need to get a pail and start bailing.

They're in the conversation, but they lost to KC to end the 2023 season and begin the 2024 season and KC is undefeated so I don't know how anyone can pick the Ravens over KC at this point.

I'm glad we're in the conversation as opposed to not being in the conversation, but I agree that it's time for this regular season success to translate into playoff success.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

The Ravens will continue to be one of the best teams in the league so long as Lamar is in his prime. The team just wins more often than not when he's on the field and healthy, despite whatever is going on around him.

He's not in over his head. He's just where most first time defensive coordinators would be five games into the season. If you look around the league it's normal to have advisors for young coordinators but teams usually start the season this way. The only difference here is that the Ravens waited until five games in.

If the pass defense gets better, as we should expect, the Ravens are right there with KC at the top of the AFC.

I agree. Harbaugh tried to hire an advisor for himself to help on game day, and everyone thought it was a great idea. He’s been in the league like 20 years. I see nothing wrong with having an experienced person helping out. Especially since we didn’t just lose Macdonald, we lost a whole bunch of the defensive staff.

The entire defensive coaching staff is young with only one coach with any kind of NFL coaching tenure and that's the inside linebackers coach. There were bound to be some growing pains. Even so we never expected the pass defense to be at the bottom of the league with all of the players we had coming back from a historical defense. How much of that can you blame on the coaches?

I'm usually pretty positive and also usually the Lamar apologist. ;)

I just feel like deja vu every time one of these articles anointing the Ravens as the best team pops up. It happened in 2019 and 2023.

They aren't the best until they beat KC in the playoffs, or whoever else they may run into in the AFCG. It's that simple.

I think I am going to disagree with you here.  I think Orr is way in over his head.  Not saying he can't be a good DC down the line, but for  right now he is overmatched.  He keeps running zone schemes out there and keeps getting burned on them.  He has so far failed to make any adjustments to help his defense.  I get that the players are ultimately responsible, but have all of the players fallen off?  Even Roquan Smith looks out of place at times.   Orr so far has looked like a deer in the headlights.  I believe that is why the Ravens brought Pees back.  They see what Orr is now and realize he needs help.
