It's surprised me how well Wrexham have done in League One through the first couple months. I thought they might struggle a bit, but they look a real candidate for promotion once again. The Championship is a different beast, though. It's very easy to get stuck in for years, which takes a huge financial toll given how much money clubs typically lose year over year trying to get promoted. They'll likely need new investors or majority ownership in order to compete, because while Rob and Ryan are rich they certainly aren't top-flight English football rich.
Luton are a modern blueprint to follow, they were stuck in National League football like Wrexham before consecutive promotions from League Two and League One. It took them four years to get promoted from the Championship, and of course they only spent one year in the Premier League before being immediately relegated back down (and they haven't exactly started off well this year in the Championship).
My club (Watford) are an historic example, it took them seven years to go from League Two to the Premier League after Elton John bought the club in 1976 and appointed Graham Taylor as manager. They've since bounced back and forth, and this is their third consecutive year in the Championship.

Officially secured a third-straight promotion to the Championship for next season, the first club to ever do so coming from the National League. As I said towards the beginning of this season though, this is the real test for them. It's a brutal, brutal division and is extremely easy to get stuck in. They'll need a lot more investment than Rob and Ryan can provide on their own in order to be competitive.

They've had a strong finish, and narrowly sit above the relegation line for right now. But due to a terrible GD they almost certainly need a point, and maybe even a win at West Brom next week to avoid going back to League One.

They’re a mess. And as a Watford supporter, if we can’t go up, Luton going down would be the next best thing. But yeah, the relegation battle in the Championship is pretty wild this year (as is typically is).
