For those who aren't watching the final, you are missing some great hockey! 1-1 after the first period.

Games like this remind me that I should really try to watch more hockey.

Though I gotta say I'm not down with all the Miracle on Ice references. I well remember that game and all that surrounded it. This ain't that.

I wasn't alive for it, but any sports fan knows the history surrounding that. Why they decided to break that out when 2 teams were so closely match I don't know.
Canada ended up winning in the end, but it was by the skin of their teeth.

How you leave Connor McDavid, arguably the best player in the world right now, all alone in front of the net like that is unbelievable.

Yeah, tiny brain fart where 2 guys started to chase 1 in to the corner and left McDavid alone. You could almost predict it was coming. The U.S. in general had more pressure and better chances in OT, but didn't cash in. Canada got one break and an open guy with a clear lane and put it home. Kind of opposite of the US win in Montreal last week in my eye. Canada struck me as being more in control, US got the 2-on-1 break with the bad line change, and took the lead then held on...
The US has a lot of talent. But saying this as a biased Blackhawks fan (current times are not good), the U.S. really needs a Patrick Kane type. A guy who gets the puck on his stick and it is practically glued to it until he decides to pass or shoot... sees 2 or 3 passes ahead and gets himself in "the spot" at the right time... or can take a pass that is off or bouncing, settle it down with ease, and carry on. They had what seemed like 20 other opportunities to make something happen and create a good chance last night, and almost without fail seemed to let the puck dribble off or over their stick. Hell I think the tying goal by Bennett, if memory serves me, came after the US was getting the better of play for a bit after they took the lead, and the missed pinching in at the point to keep a puck in the zone... you could see momentum swing suddenly and shortly after the tying goal came. Puck control / stick handling is invaluable when it's good. Canada will have Connor Bedard probably being that Patrick Kane type for them in the near future. I dunno who the US has that can match.

The better team lost, but the better country won. Happy for Canada, they needed that. Iconic moment for McJesus, which had evaded him to this point.
