I want more than 6 IP, 7H, 2 BB, and 3Ks from my ace against this anemic Rays offense, though.

I've said this multiple times now, but I don't think the swing plane is the main problem, perhaps not even a problem. He had the same swing in April, May and June and he was hitting for high average with power. He was swinging a lot so not many walks.
It's plausible it took pitchers half a year to find the holes in this swing, but my guess is that it's other stuff going on. Whether jts nagging injuries, just not seeing the ball right, some mechanical thing that he can't shake out of...whatever the case it's over two months of futility. That happens sometimes even to good players. Would need to be midway through next year still scuffling for me to think something permanent has happened to him. But can definitely adjust our short term usage of him to reflect the current struggles. Lower in the order and fewer (almost no) days at DH.
It's not beyond belief that there's a book out there now on how to attack that swing and that he's struggling to make adjustments to how he's being pitched to. Hyde has been emphatic that there's nothing physically wrong with him. Either way he's a big part of this offense struggling and we're in big trouble if things don't change quickly. I guess the only other hope are the injured guys coming back and making a difference.

They're great when they're hitting HRs at an historic pace, though.

Yes, I said exactly that. I lean another direction but it's a reasonable theory that scouts figured out a way to attack him and Adley hasn't adjusted. Seems unlikely to me but can't rule it out.

There's a chance he's just not that great.

They were all good before July.Adley's advanced stats aren't very good. Slow bad speed, bad exit velocity, barrel percentage, hard hit percentage.
There's a chance he's just not that great.
I definitely don't think he's great, but j do think he's typically a 800 OPS bat which is pretty great for a catcher. Obviously way below than on the year this season. Hoping it's just a bad year. Won't know for a while.
