The Rangers had a 10-2 lead entering the 9th, but after a Trent Grisham grand slam off of some guy with an ERA north of the moon, some other guy came on to give up more base runners. Kirby Yates was called on to face Giancarlo Stanton with runners on 2nd and 3rd (score 10-6), and he got Stanton to fly out to LF. Or more specifically, line out on a 104 mph line drive that Wyatt Langford leapt to catch at the wall to prevent it from going into the seats.
TL;DR, O’s still in first place.

Not really sure who to root for in the KC-Detroit series, but Detroit won game 1. I guess we should be rooting for Cleveland over Minnesota.

Sweep the Yanks and you just have to be even the other 9 games. If you don't it's really an uphill battle the way things are right now. Maybe they have a lucky series next week. I'm not saying I think it'll happen, just that there's a path.

Assuming we don’t win the division you’d prefer
Cle
NYY
Hou
Bal
Min
KC
Not sure it matters. If the bats come alive (don't laugh this is just a hypothetical...lol) they beat any of these guys. If the bats stay asleep they lose to all of them.

Agree, Houston is the scariest team, NY second, so avoid both till the ALCS and get Cle in the ALDS. Also avoid KC who I hate.

Yeah I've accepted they're not the WS favorites but I'm really not trying to get eliminated by the Royals again lol

At this point, that seems to be the more probable outcome. Until they prove otherwise, I'm just assuming any of those teams would beat them in a series.

Cleveland walked it off on Minnesota today. That moves the Tigers and Twins into a tie for the final WC spot (not sure who has the tiebreaker there.
Orioles have a 5 game lead on both of them.
Yankees are losing to Seattle 3-2 in the bottom of the 5th currently.
Royals (3 GB of Baltimore) and Tigers are both idle today.
Detroit comes to Baltimore this weekend. Minnesota is in Fenway. KC hosts SF.

Just posted this in another threadCleveland walked it off on Minnesota today.
Det and Minn are tied. We are up 5 games on both of them and up 3 on KC. We also have the tiebreaker on KC so essentially 4 games.

KC schedule: vs SF, at WAS, at ATL
DET: at BAL, vs TB, vs CWS (hell of a break to get them there)
MIN: at BOS, vs MIA, vs BAL

Good tidbit about the KC tiebreaker. Screw them.
We could/should come seriously close to clinching this weekend with a couple wins.
We face:
Keider Montero - 6-6 with a 4.60 ERA, 4.28 xFIP
Reese Olson - 4-8 with a 3.50 ERA, 3.71 xFIP
Casey Mize - 2-6 with a 4.36 ERA, 4.05 xFIP
Burnes, Povich, Suarez going for the O's.

We're also up 3-0 on Minnesota this year in head-to-head, so barring a final series sweep we'll win that tiebreak.

1 win sure helps things look better and feel less risky. Burnes on the mound tonight, too.
To clinch a WC we need to eliminate 2 of these 4 teams left (Boston was eliminated from catching us yesterday), the magic numbers to eliminate each are:
Seattle - 2
Minnesota - 4
Detroit - 5
Kansas City - 6
We've got the tiebreak over Seattle, Minnesota (thanks to others who pointed out the 2nd level) and KC. Detroit is still TBD so number reflects needing to finish ahead of them, not just tied. Three-way tiebreaks are more complicated, but O's are in good shape having a strong head-to-head against the contenders but could lose that advantage if they drop 2 or 3 to Detroit this weekend.
