I'm not that excited about Eflin, but he certainly should help solidify the rotation. He should be a #4 though, which means they should hopefully get someone better.

Why you taking cash. Ugh

Yeah, he's owed $18M next year. If he only ends up as good then as he's been so far this season, that's a big cost for a mediocre starter and I'd want some cash too. Especially for the prospects they gave up.

Let Tampa keep their $ and maybe you don’t have to give up as much

Sure, I'd have ate the $18M if they could have kept either Etzel or Baumeister, or sent someone lesser instead. Maybe this is a sign Rubenstein isn't going to dig too deep into his pockets?

Very nice trade IMO.

Eflin is signed through 2025.

Jon Heyman

The Rays are covering Zach Eflin’s $1M trade bonus in the deal. Good to see the O’s taking on a player with a robust $18M salary for 2025. Time are changing in Baltimore.

Feel both good and bad reading that. Glad they don't need money to cover an $18M salary for a starter, but if Eflin is the same guy next year he's been this year, $18M is an overpay.

Agree but as mentioned earlier seems like TB guys are all a bit off this season. He should get about a dozen starts for the O's even before the playoffs. See if he turns it up a notch. If he doesn't $18M is gonna be a bit pricey. But that shouldn't preclude doing other things they'll need to do rhis winter.

$10M, unless there was a buyout I'm forgetting.

Maybe I just have Angelos PTSD, but that seems like the upper limit that they'd pay to me, and they'd still need at least 1 more starter and possibly 2.

Maybe they'll get really lucky and Eflin rediscovers his '23 form. That'd be worth $18M and then some, but I don't think you can bank on that at all (pardon the pun).

Oh I think you absolutely need two more starters next year. Hopefully one of them is Burnes. But right now you have Eflin, GRod, and Kremer heading to ST.

Rodriguez, Eflin, Kremer is a start. Povich/McDermott for the 5th spot. Absolutely need 1 more good, reliable guy.

Probably do need to add at least 2 starters as insurance for the inevitable UCL tears.
