Questionable if we have two pitching prospects that would match those two guys. Maybe could've beaten the offer but if Angels wanted pitchers then isn't much you can do. Still other good RP available. Really think we need to pony up for one.

Agreed. Both those prospects were risers this year and according to BA #5 and #7 in the Phillies org coming into this season. We def need to get one.

Estevez has been good this year. Pretty meh every year prior. Not losing sleep over him.

Steep price for a rental RP. I'll still do it, but would be a bummer if it takes us Norby to land Scott. More inclined to target Fairbanks since he has control. Him and Felix would be a nasty and end next year, plus perhaps McDermott.

Yes to all that but also have to add a RP. Can't go with the current crop need at least one good addition and I'd prefer two (don't think Sir Anthony Hopkins counts but I imagine he's the second guy in practice).

Mayo at 1B again and Holliday at SS. Odd that Holliday is at SS because they’ve been babying him with one game at 2B and one at DH. SS is much more demanding on the arm. Maybe another team wanted an update on how his arm, after the injury, looks at SS? Is Mayo getting all of this 1B time to showcase him or is it in anticipation of Mountcastle going somewhere. Or does it all mean nothing. Time will tell but it was reported that the Orioles inquired about Skubal last winter. Anyone for a good conspiracy theory?

I don't. I mean I don't think it's such a fatal flaw that we should just quit, but I think the current bullpen (even plus Suarez, Povich and Dominguez) has clear enough weaknesses that it's a clear red flag and would be improved greatly with two good additions.

Add two good SP and two good RP and I think we've got the best roster in the sport. Check on the first good SP. TBD on the second and both RP. Dominguez doesn't check that box, IMO, he's just another Baker/Baumann. Doesn't mean he can't have three good months but not expecting much.

Nope, but Tanner Scott, a healthy Coulombe, and the good version of Dominguez would give me hope.

Eovaldi has that 300 IP threshold between last year and this year to trigger a player option next year. Not sure what that means, but Scherzer should cost less (Rangers owe him about $10m more this year (quick math, as the Mets are on the hook for much of his remaining contract). 

 

I like Robertson btw. Not sure I like unloading prospects to Texas to utilize his services though.

Our core has been there before. That’s what is kind of odd about that commentary. Feels like something may be going on here.
