Not commitment related, but related to the post in the Terps Football section…..as part of the House v. NCAA settlement there will be changes in roster and scholarship limits for many athletics programs beginning with the 2025-26 season. For MBB, roster limits are still set at 15, but you’ll be able to have all 15 of those players on scholarship. So the days of Terps fans chanting in the waning moments of a blowout for the walk-ons to see the court may be over after this coming season.

3-star F Marcus Jackson (Chandler, AZ) has committed to Maryland. He’s a Baltimore native currently playing at Compass Prep in Arizona. Had offers from Auburn, Georgetown, Illinois, and Iowa, among others.
Most analysts believe he'll continue to rise in the recruiting rankings, and likely finish as a 4-star prospect.

As expected, Jackson rose to a 4-star ranking in 247Sports' latest updates. They currently rank him as the 65th-best player in the country.

Verbal commitments are just a player driven marketing tool now.
Regardless, I think if a player is "on scholarship" and gets NIL money... that should be factored in to their financial situation (FAFSA) and if they are getting enough that they could pay some or all of their own way, then they should be required to do exactly that. Release the scholarship money back in to the school's pot to be used on someone else in a smaller sport. And it should be a requirement that the funds are re-allocated in that manner.
This will apply to probably a small percentage of athletes, but should still be the practice. If the old days of 4+ years of full ride tuition, room, board, fees, and stipend wasn't enough... and some young adult is making enough that a FAFSA calculator would say they need to pay some or all of their tuiton because of their income... then pay.
I know it won't happen.

Eh are academic scholarships going to be solely need based too? What if you happen to be wealthy...Bronny James got a scholarship, I think his dad was capable of paying full freight at USC. The system has issues and I don't care enough to think about solutions but I don't think this is the way to take it.

At most schools, UM included, athletic scholarships are funded by revenue generated by the athletic department, which is a whole different pot of money than the school itself that comes from very different sources. As such, I'm 99.99% sure what you suggest would not stand up in court if someone tried to challenge that....and even if a school like MD wanted to try it, if no one else would they'd be putting themselves at an even bigger recruiting disadvantage than they already are.
That said, there are schools whose athletic departments often/occasionally operate at a surplus and actually give some of that extra money to the school's general fund. Pretty sure it happened a couple times at UM in the Debbie Yow years....before she spent like a drunken sailor on non-revenue sports and drowned the department in red ink (then ran out of town for NC St).

Jeffrey has de-committed from Maryland.
Interesting that he was considering A&M.
So, he's had contact with Buzz Williams.
Obviously I'm not suggesting that MD hires Buzz for Jeffrey.
Just saying if they do hire Buzz, maybe they're able to get him back.

I guess the $$$ offer was more from Villanova. Enjoy the selfish Kevin Willard. I think Palmer probably winds up there too. Jeffrey and Palmer supposedly want to play together.

This is the first time in 10 years that Maryland has added a McDonald’s All-American in consecutive seasons (Melo Trimble & Diamond Stone).

5-star G Darius Adams (La Porte, IN) has committed to Maryland. He’s ranked as the 23rd-best player nationally, and the 3rd-best from the state of Indiana. He was previously committed to UConn, and chose Maryland over a host of other offers, including Alabama, Kansas, Michigan State, and Tennessee.
Whats the story here. No way Md just gets 5 star guys out of the blue. Why is he not going to UConn
