There was a LOT of talk at the time that Buck ruined him with his time to the plate obsession.  Then he had a bad oblique pull in ST one year and never really seemed to recover.  I feel like they were the same ST but could be getting my timelines mixed up.

To me he's just an example of how razor thin the line can be between a very good MLB pitcher and a borderline roster guy.

Especially when faced with a severe disease such as Opioid addiction. It's almost impossible to overcome that. It is possible, but it's just brutal. This coming from someone who has been dealing with this in my family for over 15 years now.

His off field issues were going on while he played.

That had to impact his preparation and performance as much as anything else.

He had a good career, but didn't live up to his potential.

Im sorry he didn't find the help he needed and his life ended much earlier than it should have.

Really is just a shame.

His friend sounds like a real piece of trash who enabled him instead of getting him help.

I've never taken an illegal drug in any form that wasn't prescribed, but the one time I did cross paths with something truly addictive was after getting my wisdom teeth removed as an adult, and they prescribed me Percocet.

It was awesome. It felt great, to the point where I looked forward to taking it, and even caught myself thinking that it would be cool if I got injured sometime in the future and they had to prescribe more.

That thought jolted me back to reality, and I realized I needed to stop taking them. My roommate at the time wound up stealing the remainder of the prescription and I've never touched them again.

With that said, I can absolutely see how someone can get addicted to that stuff, and how easy it would be. It's scary.
