Maybe I'll get a # 17 jersey... and have the name on the back say "PTBNL"....

How many pitchers in the last 10 years have bothered/frustrated you more? I can't think of any off of the top of my head.
(and I say fully acknowledging that the Os screwed him up)
Ubaldo Jimenez and it isn't even close.

I really hope the Cubs don't pick him up.

If Matusz becomes good anywhere the whole PlDev needs a redo.I really hope the Cubs don't pick him up.

Another Arrieta?

Well, if I were another team...especially the Cubs...I would pick up any O's pitcher they let go. Especially someone with as high a pedigree as Matusz once had.

Matusz isn't becoming a successful SP. Its impossible.
I don't know how you can become successful as a starter when you can't get out righties.
That being said, if I were the Brewers or some team going no where and I had the spot to give him a chance, I would do it and see what happens.

Agreed. What if he became a Fat Albers in the pen though?Matusz isn't becoming a successful SP. Its impossible.

Then he does.
I think you can question he development in the minors but Wallace and Chiti are good and this guy hasn't been able to be the reliever he should be. He has been given a ton of chances and been paid well for mediocre production.
If he goes to a bigger ballpark, one that better fits his skill set and has a good career, so be it.
I think the Orioles played a part in screwing him up early in his career but at this point, its more on him.

He's going to be a useful LOOGY for someone in the future. I think he would've been for us this season had we been able to give him more time. He might not get straightened out right away this year, but he'll eventually stick and be useful against lefties again and perhaps dominant at least for some random year.
I'm not at all sad to see him go nor do I think they are making a mistake by getting rid of him (I think selling the draft pick is a bad decision, but that's a separate decision from cutting Matusz). But he is capable of being a solid LOOGY and when he's on, one of the best around. He's just never been worth what they've paid him to fulfill that relatively minor role for the last 2-3 years. If he was more consistently able to be the dominant LOOGY that he can be when he's really on, then he'd probably be worth close to that salary, but he's too volatile and he's never been able to get righties out so there is no real upside beyond being a LOOGY.

The Braves DFA'd Matusz, will be interested to see if he gets a major league deal. Heck the Orioles should look to see if he will sign with them on a MiL deal if he is not picked up in a week or so.
Not going to happen, but he probably needs innings at this point to regain some of his confidence and control.

It is interesting that the lowly Braves think so little of him that they would not keep him, at least for awhile, after picking up his full/remaining salary.

They wanted the draft pick. They basically gave up 3 million to get the pick.
They seemingly value the picks and the minor league system, far more than we do.

I bet Matusz gets a better offer, but if he doesn't, then the O's oughta try to sign him to be a MiL SP.... give him the rest of the year to remember what he knew how to do before the O's screwed him up in the first place...
