As a result of this trade, isn't Doncic no longer for a "super max" contract? I don't pretend to know all of the ins and outs of the NBA salary cap, but I believe now the most Doncic can sign for with the Lakers is 30 percent of their total salary cap as opposed to the five-year, $345 million deal he would have been eligible for in Dallas.

The Lakers got a younger superstar (albeit with a reputation for being soft on both defense and in terms of conditioning) for a significant discount, if that's the correct term.

Correct, he can’t sign a supermax contract with the Lakers. This trade cost him a good chunk of money.

The new emphasis on defense by the Dallas Mavericks is making an immediate impact, as they trail the Cleveland Cavaliers 91-46....at halftime.

Spurs: De'Aaron Fox, Jordan McLaughlin

Kings: Zach LaVine, Sidy Cissoko, three first round picks (2025 CHA, 2027 SAS, 2031 MIN), three second round picks (2025 CHI, 2028 DEN, 2028 own back)

Bulls: Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Kevin Huerter, their own 2025 pick via SAS

The Kings got more 1st Rd picks for De'Aaron Fox than Dallas got for Luka. Still can't believe it 24 hours later.

Very short return for a top 5 player regardless of his warts, particularly since there's no indication Luka even asked for a trade.

Been hearing people ask if this is the biggest trade ever, and I can't necessarily think of a bigger one, but I haven't heard anyone compare it to Piazza / Sheffield which to me is the closest example of two Hall of Fame players (ignoring the things keeping Sheffield out), in their prime, being traded for one another (amongst some other parts).

I suppose it depends on the definition of big. For me, and I'm only a modest follower of ice hockey, the Gretzky trade to the LA Kings just two months after he won the Stanley Cup with Edmonton (and 4th in 5 years) will be hard to beat.

But that wasn't for another superstar, right?  That was just the best player ever getting traded.

Like I said, depends on your definition of big. Somewhat different circumstances too....Edmonton got $15M as part of the deal because their owner needed cash because he had other business ventures that were failing.

The Oilers' GM did try to get Luc Robitaille, who was young but had won ROY the season before and did go on to have a HOF career, but the Kings refused to include him and since the trade was entirely ownership driven they had to settle for what they could get.

(Note: I looked up Robitaille and learned something interesting. When the Kings drafted him in 1984, they took him five rounds after they drafted a kid named Tom Glavine, who would go on to a HOF career of his own)

Ill never be convinced Luka wasnt maneuvered to LA by the league

BTW Ive said this before but of all the sports conspiracies I've heard the one I could buy the most is that Stern rigged the Ewing draft

Just to expand a bit, this agreement is a part of a settlement between TNT and the NBA stemming from the lawsuit the former filed after the network deemed the NBA violated its "right to match" clause when it awarded its next broadcast package to ESPN/ABC, NBC and Amazon (TNT believed it matched Amazon's offer, the NBA disagreed). It doesn't sound like the show will be on weekly throughout the season. In the early season it will likely air on occasions like opening night, Christmas Day and maybe some NBA Cup games. Then it will air when ABC begins showing its weekly Saturday night games in December. It will also likely air more frequently when the playoffs begin.

In addition to keeping and producing Inside the NBA, TNT along with subsidiaries Bleacher Report and House of Highlights will have rights for both games and highlights in some countries outside the US. TNT will also continue to operate NBATV and NBA.com as they’ve always done.

Also, Shaq is not yet under contract after this season, but the expectation is that he will extend his deal with TNT and remain part of the show.

According to Front Office Sports Shaq and TNT have come to an agreement for him to return to Inside the NBA (on ESPN) next season.

Great, a couple more noncompetitive teams to feed players to the handful of teams that matter.
