As a result of this trade, isn't Doncic no longer for a "super max" contract? I don't pretend to know all of the ins and outs of the NBA salary cap, but I believe now the most Doncic can sign for with the Lakers is 30 percent of their total salary cap as opposed to the five-year, $345 million deal he would have been eligible for in Dallas.
The Lakers got a younger superstar (albeit with a reputation for being soft on both defense and in terms of conditioning) for a significant discount, if that's the correct term.
Correct, he can’t sign a supermax contract with the Lakers. This trade cost him a good chunk of money.
