Sliders hurt arms too, as we've all read. Doesn't he risk injury by throwing it?

Savant definitely calls things sweeper. It has Kyle Gibson throwing one for example. Who knows why they don't have Burnes throwing one (yes I was assuming this was the slider category last year). I'm sure they don't care what the pitcher calls it.

Anyway, Burnes was pretty good before he ever used a sweeper, and he's pretty good this year. Maybe it was his best pitch last year, I don't know, but the regular old slider was good before and it's good now. I like Bob's idea that he went to it last year because other stuff wasn't working. This year other stuff is working, so makes sense to just go with what made him a Cy Young candidate every other year.

I think it's funny that 2035 and Slide will argue about whether the sky is blue, but when 2035 brought up an unsourced potentially negative thing Slide took it as gospel and ran with it.

I guess this is it

He tweaked the slider last year and has reverted back this year. Thats the only thing we can say for sure. Why is left for speculation but I think it's fair to wonder if he has done it to lessen stress on the arm. It's also clear the "sweeper" version of the slider was his most effective version of the pitch so why not stick with it?

As for the rest of my original post you have to be able to say I was wrong. I was concerned he wouldn't be able to dominate with  the cutter as an elite pitch and the rest of his pitches being avg to good. So far he has. You can't deny or try to misrepresent what's in front of your face.  As I said last night, he has been in complete control almost every time he's stepped on the mound this year. Thats my only issue with slide. If he were to say, I believe Burnes will end the year as a good but not elite SP I can accept that. But dont deny or downplay what he has done so far.

I'm just disappointed he has a 2.35 ERA. I don't care about the strikeouts. I expect better.
