Going Thursday night, and watched part 1 again last night to refresh.  If nothing else, I know it will be visually stunning.

It's pretty good, but I have some problems with what they chose to do in some aspects.  Good adaptation for some of what needed to be adapted, but really dropped the ball on a key point that I'm stuck on.

I think they fumbled the ending with respect to the book.

I don't think they did a good job with where they left Paul and Chani's relationship, but my guess is they were setting up the next book/movie.  I could be blind to what was needed to ease into Messiah cause I haven't read that.

 

As filmed, even though I know he told Chani he'd always loved her, it seemed like Paul was getting with Irulan.  The message at the end of the book is supposed to be "I'm with you officially, but I'll never love you and we aren't having children.  Chani is my real wife."  I don't think that came across at all in the movie, and I don't like that.

 

They also timebound this revolution within the confines of a max of 9 months.  I think that's ridiculous, even with the Bene Gesserit seeding the Lisan al-Gaib stuff.  The time jump in the book makes it much more believable and fleshes out these aspects of the story better.  They at least made Paul reluctant to become the Messiah for the most part.  I understand why he chickened out, cause how do you actually adapt Alia, but still.

I saw it yesterday. Amazing film.

 

I think Jessica's parentage came out of nowhere, though. Wasn't foreshadowed at all or I missed it.
