Siriani (?) just went full Harbs. Must be an Eagle tree thing but Reid didn't get infected.

Eagles pass on 3rd and 3 late while the Falcons had no TOs left... Barkley drops it... and the Falcons wind up getting the go ahead TD with 38 second left. A run play plus 40 seconds would have completely changed the Falcons strategy when getting the ball back with no TOs. The extra 40 or so seconds gave Cousins the luxury of still throwing to the middle of the field multiple times.

Morons. Game and situational management done right, the Eagles are probably 2-0. Never mind they were basically running the ball AT WILL in the 4th quarter. But no, gotta give it that old Harbaugh-esque "aggressive shot". Now they're 1-1 instead.

All of that may be true, but Jalen Hurts crapped the bed on that last drive. 1st and 10 at their own 43, with a timeout remaining (:27 left) and he forces a bad pass. Just throw it away and reset. That's some faulty wiring in that guy's head. Some guys get it, others don't. Hero ball works when plays breakdown. That play had a lineman rushing to plant Hurts on his backside. Nothing broken about that play at all.

Did not get that at all.  Run the football.  If you don't get it you kick but you also run about 40 seconds off the clock.  Don't understand the thinking there.  You can say all day that he should have caught it, but sh*t happens.  The Falcons had no timeouts left.  Just made no sense at all.

Yeah that is true.  I thought Lamar made a less fatal but similar mistake with 27 seconds left and no timeouts on Sunday.  Needing a FG, first play he throws a completion over the middle for 11 yards.  By the time they spiked the ball that 11 yard completion cost half the time left on the clock.  If it was a 30 yard completion over the middle I could see it, but for 11 yards that was ridiculous.  With no timeouts it left them with only the sideline and still about 30 yards to go to at least have a chance at the tying FG.  There is a lot of terrible clock management in the NFL.  Except for KC.  They always seem to put themselves in position to win at the end of a game.

Iggles let Atlanta go 70 yards in six plays in just 65 seconds on that last drive. Didn't understand why the corners were trying to jump routes instead of keeping everything in front of them. As it turned out, Atlanta almost scored too quickly.

Even though they could have easily been 2-0 after tonight, the Eagles are just not that good. They can't stop the run, can't pressure the quarterback and miss too many tackles on defense. And while Jalen Hurts can be a dynamic player, that interception at the end of tonight's game was his 24th turnover since the beginning of last season. That's way too many. Hurts seems like a guy who might win some games he shouldn't, but he'll also lose some he shouldn't.

Exactly. And that would have been the Harbs postgame sound bite... "Liked the call, play was there, just didn't execute, no regrets". And he would left unsaid... "I'm smart and everyone else is stupid, you're all wasting my time".

Ravens hosted the Eagles back some number of years ago, had the ball and a 10 point lead with about 6 minutes left. 1st down at the PHI 11 yard line... 3 runs, if they don't score, at least take it down to about 4 minutes left and you have a 13 point lead.  PHI can't settle for a FG the rest of the way, they become completely one dimensional and need 2 TDs.  But what does Team Harbs do?  Pass... intercepted.  Play it safe and you're either up 13 with 4 minutes left and PHI has 3 TOs, or you're up 14 with 6 minutes left but PHI has no TOs left.

Eagles kick a FG, then score a last second TD, and the Ravens had to defend a 2 point conversion to not lose the game.

1 min left is more than enough time to drive. Sure, it pressures Atl less with 1:40 vs 1:00 but running into the line a 3rd time and conceding a FG and only a 6 point lead vs going for the knockout punch is not the right call. Siriana said, and I believe him, that if the throw wasnt open Hurts is supposed to hold the ball and run or take a sack. Anything to keep the clock moving. You call the play on that 3rd down that gives you the best chance of converting the 1st and ending the game right then and there.

Which is why you run the ball. Doesn’t mean you have to run it into the line, either.

ETA - The bigger issue was Hurts crapping the bed, throwing a horrible ball in the face of a rush about to plant him on his behind. If he throws the ball away, the Eagles have a 2nd down, a timeout in their pocket and 20+ yards to gain to get into FG range.

You call the play that gives you the best chance to get the 1st down and win the game right there. Thats not likely going to be a run into a run stop look. Again, Hurts had option to keep the clock running if no one was open. Barkley dropped a pass. They didnt execute the play.  Obviously there is a point where I would run clock no matter what. It wasnt with 1:40 or whatever it was left on the clock.

The pass is on the table if the Falcons have timeouts remaining, otherwise the pass (bad pass, drop) lets them up off the mat. Play the numbers that constrict their chances of life.

Then, when the Falcons had the ball, The Eagles weren’t getting any pressure on Cousins. Crazy take: that team is closer to a 7 win season than they are the playoffs.

The fact that Atl scored so fast and kind of proves the point that you want to go for the first down and the win when they did. You wouldve left Atl with 1 min if you run clock.  Atl proved they could score in 1 min because thats exactly what they did

I see a lot of teams make that mistake of getting out of the momentum which got you down the field, to run the ball and chew clock. Yes, it means your defense has to make a stop to preserve the win, but it's not like Hurts is Mahomes, let's not get it confused. Not every team comes back with 40 seconds left. You don't give the defense a breather and help them get back on their toes rather than keeping them on their heels by just running the ball into the line for no gain just to chew some clock. You can't take the score for granted there.

Head coaches (and coordinators) have such inflated egos that they can't allow themselves to do the obvious. That is why you had the Niners pass from the 1 yard line 4 times in the SB against the Ravens. That is why you had the Seahawks pass at the 1 yard line against the Patriots. That is why you see so many times coaches and coordinators go with a low percentage play instead of just running the ball and eating the clock. They get so enamored with themselves and wanna be unpredictable but it's gotten to the point where it has become predictable.

The only coach who I have seen NOT do this is Belichick. When he ran over the Bills that one game where they passed like 3 times it was a thing of beauty. As much as I disliked BB over his career, that game made me love him.

Yea the Vikings are good.

It’s insane the one sided officiating in Chiefs games. Refs missed a horse collar type play on McCloud, which likely prevented him from scoring… as well as a blatant PI in the end zone on an attempt to Pitts.

Kelce is dog water now? No problem, we’ll add the refs to your squad.

Just terrible. It really is a terrible product in so many ways. And one I can’t get enough of, smh.

The Chiefs DB never got his head around to even try to look at the ball, made extreme contact with the receiver in the endzone, and by extreme I mean basically hugging him with arms wrapped around him. In the world of P.I. and illegal contact... how THAT doesn't get called in the endzone like that is mind-blowing...

But there were also calls against the Chiefs on that last drive that kept it going.  I don't think any team gets more favorable calls or gets screwed.  I think all fans of teams believe their team always gets screwed.

If Atlanta kicks a FG down 22-17 instead of going on 4th down, that last drive is for a FG to win the game.  Sometimes coaches get too caught up in the game an go on 4th down when the smarter move is to kick and let the game play out later.  Atlanta has no one but themselves to blame for needing a TD instead of being able to sit on the ball, kick a FG, and possibly go home a winner.

They’re going to have to move the kickers back 10-15 yards if they want the new kickoff rules to have the desired effect.
