The Week 4 slate quietly shapes up as a possible blockbuster.

Utah at OKSt feels huge, a likely difference-maker as far as who plays for the Big 12 title.

Sticking in the Big 12, I'm getting upset vibes for K State at BYU.

Looking at last season it feels weird that USC is a favorite over Michigan in the Big House. But the Wolverines are struggling on offense and SC's defense has at least looked competent so far....and Michigan is making a QB change too.

I'm not sure Oklahoma can hang with Tennessee for 4 quarters, but that place will be insane at kickoff for the Sooners' first SEC game. How ironic that the visiting team is led by Josh Heupel....I'm sure the SEC schedule-makers didn't do that by accident.

And who had Friday night's Illinois at Nebraska game on their bingo card as featuring two ranked teams?

Unfortunately last week was so busy for me I couldn't do a preview and picks writeup, but if you saw my picks on Cerrano's office pool you'd know that's probably a good thing. My redemption for that abomination starts here...

We got a good one in Lincoln. All tied at 17 headed to the 4th Qtr, Nebraska has a 2nd and Goal.

Bitter backyard rivals Stanford and Syracuse squared off tonight for the... [checks notes] ...first time ever, and Stanford won on a walk-off FG.

24-all at the 2-minute timeout, Illinois ball. This has been great game.

And it's headed to OT.

From the Dept. of Some Things Never Change:

Nebraska collapses late in a close game, loses 31-24 in OT.

That is all.

I mean, how is this even possible?

Nebraska has not scored in seven consecutive overtime games, dating to a 2014 win at Iowa.

Chris Vannini
Nebraska is 3-18 in one-score games since the start of 2021. The Huskers' last five losses are all by one score.

Nebraska’s 25th straight loss against a ranked opponent. Rutgers is the only Power Four team with a longer streak (40 straight losses).

It was Illinois' first win as a ranked team over another ranked team since beating Ohio State in 2001.

How about Cal vs Stanford for the ACC championship?

San Jose State and Ken Niumatalolo are sending a message to the Pac-12 that they picked the wrong MWC teams for expansion, as the Spartans are currently leading Washington State 31-24 late in the 3rd Qtr.

Washington State came from behind twice in the 4th Qtr to force OT and won it in the second session 54-52. They head to Boise next Saturday at 4-0.

The ESPN win probability graph on that game is something to behold. Pac-12 After Dark lives.

Nimo is a good coach. That’s a game where SJSU is typically uncompetitive. In what will eventually be a weakened MWC he can win there.

After last night’s games, 3 games all decided on the final play, Saturday has a tough act to follow.

20 minutes into the JMU-UNC game and there’s been a combined 60 points scored. Defense apparently optional in Chapel Hill today.

Update: JMU just scored again. They lead 46-21 with 7 minutes to go in the second quarter.
