LOL at projecting the Rays to finish 7 games ahead of the O's.

Who knows what will happen with their best player - Wander Franco.
And how many pitchers will be missing most if not all of 2024 due to TJS?

Or the Orioles winning 17 less games.

The Cardinals certainly outdid themselves in finding a downgrade to Jack Flaherty.

$11M guaranteed with incentives and an option for Lance Lynn with the Cardinals.
They also gave $12M to Kyle Gibson .

I'd have been somewhat interested in the Gray or Maeda deals. Gray would've cost the O's their 1st round pick, though. And Maeda isn't a reliable bet to be the top guy I think we need, so he'd only have been an acceptable option if they had added two SP.

Unfortunately I feel like until shown otherwise the Maeda deal is likely on the very high end of what this team will do. That seems like a reasonable deal for him, probably a higher upside Gibson type. But I believe we haven't done a multiyear deal in years, other than team options.
Contract aside, no way this FO was signing a guy with a 1st round pick attached.
But as always, we can argue both about what is possible vs what is plausible. I'd have been ok with either.

This IMO, is the type of deal the Orioles should have been offering. Gray does get hurt and is 34 but he was very good last year.

Feel like Gray is worth the 1st round pick now that we should expect the O's to be picking in the 20's in the draft now. 2nd in Cy Young voting last year, career 3.79 ERA. 3 years only takes him to age 37, not into his 40s. There is a log jam of young talent in the farm. In win now mode, rather skip a first round pick and replace Gibson with Gray instead of whatever hot garbage is left in January.
Gray, Bradish and GRod would have been a nice top of the rotation, in the Orioles price range.

I wouldn't expect any major FA SP signing.
