The Yankees aren't going to play .750 baseball all year. The Rays were the same as the Yankees last year, and they came back to earth too. 162 games is a lot.

Weirdly, I'm still just not that worried. We definitely need to pick up a starting pitcher at the deadline, as well as a reliever, but pitching injuries are just part of baseball now, and the fact that we've been able to have Suarez and Povich step up is a good sign. Bradish certainly isn't going to be the last pitcher this season to go down with a ucl.

It sucks, but they have the ability to make a deal for someone impactful, and I have growing confidence that they will. Hopefully Bradish can get a brace surgery and be ready for spring training next year. In the meantime, it's next man up. This is still a really good team. Nobody's going to feel bad for them. Just find a way.

Agree. Not like we are using hindsight or that things have gone south.

The facts they knew before ST.
1.Wells didn't finish last season.
2. Means didnt finish last season.
The expectation was that they, at best, were not going to be ready for opening day.
3. Bradish was hurt and they knew coming into ST he too wasn't going to be ready.

They added Burnes which was fantastic but many said at the time we had a lot of IFs coming into ST and needed to do more. We'll here we are. And maybe they really do think that Povich and McD are ready.

The good news is we are in great shape I'm the standings and will still have all our trade chips besides Ortiz and plenty of time for additional moves if the FO thinks good help is available for reasonable cost.

McDermott has allowed 41 walks in 65 innings and currently has a 1.485 WHIP. That's not going to play at the Major League level.

 

I think we all know that whatever Elias does by the deadline he is not going to let injuries force his hand.

So...given how good Westy is, and Gunnar's meteoric rise, and with Mayo ready in the wings and Norby looking like he belonged in his time up...I might legitimately trade Holliday if I could get a Skubal type in the return.

I'm not down on Holliday, but if they could get a hammer to put with Burnes and Grayson for the playoffs, I think I'm ready.

This has nothing to do with the current team but does anyone remember Chris Parmelee?  I have absolutely zero memory of him.  None. I bring it up because on this date in 2015, the Orioles hit 8 homeruns to set a franchise record (since moving to Baltimore) in pounding the Phillies 19-3.  Manny Machado and Parmelee each hit two homeruns.

Skubal is the frontrunner for the AL Cy Young. With him I think the O's become the most dangerous team in the playoffs in a short series, and it keeps their window super wide open in 25 and 26.

I disagree with that, but acquiring Skubal doesn't preclude them from acquiring a reliever.

I hypothetically threw out a who would you trade Holliday for awhile back. Im just not doing it for a SP. Every arm is a ticking timebomb and you are an injury away from getting maybe 70-100 innings out of Skubal over those 2.5 years. Not the top prospect in baseball. If we need to start with Mayo leading a deal Id consider that. There are levels to all of this

It isn't worth the risk. I checked - Skubal's already had a TJS as well as flexor tendon surgery. His career high is 149.1 IP back in '21, and he's already at 86 IP. 

 

I get the love, but I'm not dealing from the top of the deck for that. Especially in today's game.
