Adrian Wojnarowski

The Washington Wizards are trading F Deni Avdija to the Portland Trail Blazers for Malcolm Brogdon and the 14th pick tonight and 2029 pick, sources tell ESPN.

^^^^^^

That 2029 pick will be the second most favorable of three picks the Blazers will have: theirs, Milwaukee’s and Boston’s. The Wizards also get 2nd Rd picks in 2028 and 2030.

Wizards fans, what’s the skinny on Avdija? Sounds to me like the Blazers got taken badly here, but I’m open to input.

I didn't watch the Wizards, but I ve understood Avdja to be similar to Giddy. A good team player.

Another component to this is the Blazers were projected to be over the first tax apron this coming season once the #7 and #14 picks were factored in. Obviously you never want to be a tax payer when you're a lottery team, which they will be again. With this trade they dumped about $7M between Brogdon's and Avdija's salary, plus another $4.5M they won't owe the #14 pick, so they are well below the tax line now. Still, the #14 pick plus an unprotected 1st seems like a steep price to pay in a swap of role players.

HTF do the Lakers always seem to get so damn lucky? Dalton Knecht, who many had as a Top 10 pick, falls to them at #17. He'll be a great floor spacer for them.

I think he was their best player.  The Blazers wanted him because he can defend at least 4 positions and is developing into a solid offensive player, plus it helps get them under the cap.  He is on a team friendly deal.

The Wizards got a decent return that will also help them lose for the next years.

Don't worry, they'll draft Bronny to torpedo things.

Decent complimentary piece, but not a starter, and not great for a young team with a lot of holes still, so made sense he got traded. He's like one of those pieces for a contender that's cheap, and does a good job fixing a hole, but as he gets closer to more money won't have as much value either. Was supposed to be an absolute shut down defender when we drafted him with good mid range shot. Never really got there, he didn't kill you when you played him, but didn't WIN you games either.

I guess like Chris said, just a good team player, and good piece, but not a building block.
