Maryland will wrap up their non-conference slate on Friday night against Virginia, with a chance to begin the season 3-0 for the third straight year. The Cavaliers are in their second season under head coach Tony Elliott, who came to Charlottesville before last season following a long stint as an assistant coach on Dabo Swinney's Clemson staff. After a dismal 3-7 (1-6 ACC) record in 2022, they've struggled to begin their 2023 campaign with losses to Tennessee and James Madison already on their resume. Thus far, they're one of the worst teams in the country at running the ball and stopping the run.

Maryland enters this game as 14-point favorites, and ESPN Analytics gives them an 85.9% chance to win.

Virginia is awful so I’m surprised the spread isn’t even higher. No excuse to not win resoundingly tonight. Taulia needs to play better. He’s off to quite the rough start according to PFF. And against the competition he’s faced, it’s not great. Realize it’s a team game.
