Would MLB allow any move?  The Angelos family is hated around the league, OPACY is a top stadium and the state is offering $600 million.  It's not like the Oakland situation.

Does Bubba Gump do good even in a place as huge as Time Square? If you're gonna do something, do it with local flare. Not some generic, crap restaurant.

chains will be the only places that can afford the rent. If it’s not Bubba Gump it will be some chain that sucks.

How did we arrive at a point where sports owners get to extort local government into giving them hundreds of millions of dollars to finance buildings they profit off of, and then turn around and demand more so they can essentially become real estate tycoons?

I still can't get my head around that.

I dont want this guy owning the Os the next 20 or 30 years. And to line his pockets that much more with what he wants to do. Just say no. I hope they tell him to f off.

Keep in mind this asshat already pockets every red cent of profit from MASN. They bullied MLB and the Gnats into helping them create their own TV network, now they’re trying to bully the state into helping them become real estate tycoons. The entitlement and greed knows no bounds.

F off beyond the $600M they've already agreed to giving him?

Because even if he backs off his extra $300M demands, he's still getting $600M.

I dont know honestly. But 100% not the extra stuff. Im drawing a line at least at that point. Bottom line is Im cold on an JA ownership for the next god knows how many years. Baseball is my baby. The Os are my baby. But I could see myself walking away at some point under his ownership.

I just read the Banner article.

I don't know how the hell Angelos thinks he's entitled to the parking lots around Ravens stadium when it's law that they share them. It's also law that both teams get fair treatment from the state.

John Boy thinks he can force the city to just give him land so he can build shit on it. The nerve of this bleeping guy.

I shudder to think the team will be under his control for the next 30 years.

We were assured the Os werent leaving. That it was insane to think it was possibe. I guess some people think we should/would just cave to this goober. Ive been distracted because of how well the season has gone but its prob time to start getting back on top of this

They were never going to move, largely because a variation of the deal he wants is going to happen.

https://frontoffices...part-milwaukee/

So to sum up….

First the A’s left Oakland for just $385M in public money in Las Vegas.

Now the Brewers are thinking of leaving Milwaukee because they can’t get $448M for improvements.

And once more, John Angelos has $600M in public money on the table waiting for him to sign a lease, and it’s not enough.

That said, this story might give an indication as to why MLB might tell John to pound sand if he says he wants to move.

Finally….maybe this is what John meant when he said the Brewers are one of the teams he wishes to emulate.

Not only does he have $600M on the table, he already has his team playing in one of the most gorgeous stadiums in North America - and his own TV network. Oh, and daddy’s trust fund.

I genuinely fear that if this ahole doesn't sell the team, they will literally never be players in FA, or even make an attempt to extend their youngest players.

Never.

If they don't, then that would complicate the lease already signed by the Ravens since it contains a "parity" clause with the Orioles. If the Stadium Authority caves and gives John Angelos what he wants, then they'll have to renegotiate their terms with the Ravens in order to make their agreement comparable.

He can't sell the team because he doesn't own it.

I mean technically yes, but you could make the argument that any concern about moving the team is irrelevant also because he doesn't own it. He operates as the owner for all intents and purposes, and I have no doubt that if he wanted to sell the team or thought the team should be sold, they would be.

Anything any of them say should be taken with a grain of salt, but I believe the court documents said Georgia wants the team sold. If true, then yeah John is the main reason the team would stay in the family. What else is he going to do with his life? Either way, it would seem dumb for anything to happen while Peter is alive.

I'm not sure you actually want to discuss this, but in the macro sense, yes, this is very different.

The one thig that comes to mind with this comparison, is that corporations usually equal jobs. In some cases, many jobs. Sport teams don't offer that.

Good news! I saw a dog today.

What else is he going to do with his life?

This is the crux of everything.  He has no accomplishment in his life.  Maybe he could or will, but we haven't seen a single element of anything.  If he doesn't have the Orioles, he'll just be a rich guy with no relevance.  Don't get me wrong, people will still try and exploit his money, but it will never be something HE does.

I've shared the Jeff Wilpon situation before.  He's Jeff Wilpon.  When the Wilpon's first wanted to sell the team to Steve Cohen, Jeff Wilpon was trying to create an agreement where he remained in charge of the Mets for 5 years.  Cohen said no. Now that Jeff Wilpon is out of MLB and independently wealthy, no one wants him.  He was the Senior Executive of a Major League Baseball Team and zero people in the world care about him.  He has a figurehead title in his uncle's Real Estate group and he owns a defunct E-Sports franchise.  Seems like quite the fall.

There are several other very public, National, examples if you want to follow out this same approach, but the fact is the John Angelos has zero swag based on any Talent he has.  If he wasn't tied to the Orioles, NOBODY would be looking at him leading Real Estate investment anywhere.  He's have to buy an E-sports team to be involved in anything.  He couldn't make anything of a living with their Race Horse farm and appears to need external resources [read: Orioles] to even float that. How's the Law Firm doing?

He's tried to back his wife's dream of a Production Company and that seems to be pretty fringe.  They had to get the daughter of their Lawyer to even recruit a Talent and then leverage OPaCY (Music Series) to prop up her opportunity.  Where would that be without leveraging the Orioles at a number of levels?

He can't invest his own resources (resources he doesn't even have yet, he's not wealthy in the larger sense) into these things because he'd be broke when they failed.  All of this "Public-Private" discussion is just code for "I don't want to carry the risk".  If the State follows through on anything like this, the risk is on the Taxpayers.  The Tobacco settlement carried no risk, the MASN agreement carried no risk.  This Real Estate ploy carries no risk.  It's always someone else's money that props them up.

I don't begrudge them the wealth at all....but this isn't about wealth, it's about relevance and John Angelos can not be relevant without the Orioles. He wants to be in charge.  He's already (I'd argue for a while now) been inserting himself into Team decisions.
