What's next, Arkansas going to offer more $$$ to Saban? Not a bad strategy, just like any GM driving up the price.

Hard to be a hot commodity after a 3-9 season, but I guess some think Leach might be.

ESPN: Report: Auburn, Charlie Strong talked

I've seen his name mentioned at Colorado too. CU can't get in a bidding war with either Auburn or Louisville though.

Barkley wants Petrino - http://www.al.com/sp... ... incart_hbx

"I understand he has some baggage but he's a hell of a coach, and we shouldn't try to play judge and jury and moral judge. He made a mistake, he admitted to his mistake, we have to hire a guy who we know can win, and that's him," Barkley told NBC 38. "It's unfortunate about what happened to (former coach Gene) Chizik, but it's time for Auburn to move on," he said.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. There are a lot of folks in the Charlie Strong and Gus Malzahn camp's as well.

Not only Petrino's baggage at Arkansas but the coup for Arkansas to get him while at Louisville, might be a bit awkward. My guess is some less established school will take a chance on Petrino.

Guess you forgot about Petrino's stint with Atlanta in between Louisville and Arkansas? Understandable, since the only memorable thing about it was the cowardly, Saban-like manner in which he ran away.

Nope I remember him leaving with some games to go. I didn't feel like listing his whole biography here, it could take awhile.

FYI, that should've read Auburn on the 2nd Arkansas reference.

Yes, he has a lot of baggage, just a bit more awkward of Auburn hired him than another school because of that past.

Just to follow up on this, Deadspin has a really interesting article about this. We might think of it as a passing news story, but there's some interesting drama that you don't really hear about, or care about, unless it involves your own team.

Monte Kiffin has resigned from USC to pursue opportunities in the NFL.

I think this is good for USC since the D had been disappointing under him.

ESPN: Vols spoke to Gruden, but that's it

http://espn.go.com/c...ach-sources-say

Some of the names that have been mentioned as possibilities include Florida State's Jimbo Fisher, Oklahoma State's Mike Gundy, Miami's Al Golden, North Carolina's Larry Fedora, Louisville's Charlie Strong and UCLA's Jim Mora Jr.

I think Charlie Strong has been listed for just about every opening.

ESPN:

http://insider.espn....cks-rebuild-ncf

Arkansas' top target should be Louisville Cardinals coach Charlie Strong. He's a perfect fit. He gets it. Strong turned around a Louisville program that was in shambles in every way when he got there. He is from Arkansas and has SEC experience as a highly regarded defensive coordinator at Florida and South Carolina. He has brought top talent to Louisville through his great relationships with high school coaches in Florida. The fact that he could get quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to go to Louisville is a testament to his recruiting abilities.

The obligatory Strong endorsement! Gilmore mentions that Arkansas shouldn't go after an A-list coach, this guy is pretty close to elite at this point.

2-3 of those guys would be making lateral moves at best imo.

Which ones do you think are making lateral moves at best?, it's the best conference in the country. I would say for Jimbo Fisher, it's probably a lateral move, but the other ones seem like promotions. I guess Miami, maybe, but that program has been falling for a while, well so is Tennessee. I just think the ceiling is probably higher at Tenn than at Miami.

So would going to Kentucky or Vandy be a move up?

Yeah, it's the best conference in the nation, but that also means it's tougher to win it. Yeah, Tennessee has some good history, but at this point they are what, the 7th or 8th most desirable job in the conference I would guess. They haven't had a winning conference record since 2007 and they haven't lost less than 4 total games since 2004 where they lost 3.

FSU and Miami (depending on potential sanctions) are at least as good of programs imo, have been much better recently, are in better spots for recruiting, and provide an easier path to a BCS bowl game or the upcoming playoffs. Oklahoma St has been quite good of late and Mora has UCLA on the rise and that school is in a great recruiting location. So I can see those coaches staying, or going because UT has the stronger tradition and potential.

Do either of these places have an 100k+ stadium, with the history, facilties, fanbase, etc that Tennessee do?

Do you really think I was being serious about Kentucky or Vanderbilt? Obviously the point was that simply saying that UT plays in the best conference is not a great point by itself.
