Yup. 1-2 feels like the fair result in this series
This win more than balances out Tuesday's loss, IMO.

Probably a day off. I dont like jerking Gunnar around. Especially since hes starting to settle in at 3b. If they are thinking about replacing Mateo Id prefer Ortiz or Westburg. Idrally Ortiz but he still hasnt played since being demoted so that isnt happening anytime soon. Mateo may be hanging on by a thread but Ortiz being out helps. Not sure I trust anyone else defensively
Also really curious to see if Mateo just got a routine day off or if they're considering cutting his time. My guess is more routine, but he's close to the end of his rope if he can't get going a little bit.

Felix still searching for the split. The only good one he threw today was the K to get Urias. Either hanging or spiking it too often. To his credit hes going with the fastball a lot and with 100 MPH you often dont need anything else.
I wonder if Felix not throwing the split as often had anything to do with McCann being behind the plate and not Adley. Sometimes a pitcher isn't as likely to throw his nastiest split or slider because he doesn't have the confidence in his catcher to block the pitch should he happen to bounce it.

Makes sense with a 1-run lead, but we were up 3 yesterday.

That may well have something to do with it. And its also why I dont like Felix in the 10th inning. Too easy to steal on him and that splitter can lead to a WP or PB. Not ideal with a free guy starting at 2nd base which is FREAKING STUPID to begin with.

Except Felix that is striking out half the guys he faces. It seems to be a very obvious choice to go to Felix when possible in the 10th with a guy already on 2nd. I think he is far more likely to strand that runner than anyone else we have. The concerns of holding runners is a concern with Felix, as is a WP, but those concerns are far outweighed by how much better he is than everyone else and how likely it is that he can get the unproductive outs needed to avoid allowing a run without a hit (as well as avoiding that hit as he's got the lowest avg-against on the team as well).

I have said before, I will trust Felix at the end of the game anytime, everytime. I think you are zeroing in on one aspect (stolen bases) and not the fact that Felix at times can just be unhittable.
I am too lazy to check the success rate for base stealers through the league, but imagine it has to be somewhere around 70% or more. Maybe it is 80 against Felix. I will gladly take that and understand that he is likely to strike guys out and muscle his way through the inning.

I think he had a 3 run lead and wanted to dust off the slider yesterday in addition to the splitter. When the Brewers got a base runner, he went to the 100 MPH stuff.
I think McCann is a good catcher, so I don't think it had anything to do with trust.

Sure if we get to the 10th I would use Felix because as you said he's better than anyone else. Doesnt mean I like it but I'd do it. Its mostly just my adamant dislike for fake baseball.

When Mateo is locked in, he's one of the most entertaining players I've ever watched. Unfortunately, the bad stretches are far outweighing the good ones and I don't think there's enough there for him to continue being an everyday player.
