To me, the key to the Ravens draft was signing Jackson's extension before it began. The details and drama have been done to death elsewhere, but the fortunate timing removed a lot of doubt from whatever moves they'd make in the draft. I read somewhere (yeah, I know the social media "REPORT" is not worth the energy it takes to click on it) that without Lamar's commitment they were thinking about choosing Will Levis in the first round. What a waste that would have been, but you couldn't really blame them; you have to have a quality QB to do anything.

It may be the obvious, but my favorite pick was Zay Flowers. I saw on another draft thread someone lamenting that they could have chosen a "Zay Flowers type" in a later round, and I was hoping for a first round corner, but EDC made clear in his post-round presser that they were not after a Zay Flowers type; they wanted Zay Flowers. They'd told him at the Shrine game if he was there at 22 they would take him. They like him for who he is as much as how he plays.

I believe that is a pattern with the Ravens. They try to build a team of character people with whom they want to go to war. The article mentions the bloodlines of some of the picks (Simpson and Kelly), and that surely factors into it. Some fans criticize this somewhat idealized approach, and maybe some pure performance may be compromised by it, but this is their philosophy of hiring, no doubt established from the top by Bisciotti, and that is who they are.

I've personally come around on the Flowers pick. I don't think I'm the person who said we could get a Flowers type on day 2 or 3. But I did prefer a CB on day 1. I have seen reports where EDC has said Forbes was one of his favorite players in the draft, and had he been there, it's possible he may have taken him in round 1.

I also think their was a behind closed doors agreement with Lamar, that they would address WR early on as well.

Would you rather have Rock and Flowers, or a round 3 WR and/or a vet and Forbes?

Outside of DHop the WR market was pretty picked over, but the CB2 market still had a few options.  If we re-sign Peters that's a pretty solid secondary.

That's why I started off saying I've come around on the Flowers pick.

I personally would have been fine with Forbes/Banks/Porter and having OBJ, Bateman, Duvernay and Agholar as our WR's.

I'm also ok having OBJ, Bateman, Flowers, Duvernay and Agohlar as our WR's, and Ya-Sin and Humphrey as the CB's. Hope we make one more move at CB.
