No. They're not just good at drafting and development: they're phenomenal.

If that team were in a market that actually supported the team, they'd probably have four or five WS titles by now.

The thousand dollar question that begs to be asked is: would the Rays be better if they could go out and sign elite players to big time contracts?

They've got some legit talent obviously like Franco, Arozarena, Brandon Lowe.... but they're just on an extremely extended hot streak.

Not good if Urias pulled up lame.

Might give Ortiz his extended look.

This gets lost in this thread, but I disagree.  They understand how to leverage their market position to do what they want.  They sell aspects of the way they are run.  They don't want to spend money.  Big resources force you into certain mindsets.  All locations along the spectrum require a different approach.

The Dodgers are a bulldozer.  The Rays are a sports car.  You drive them differently.  One of the things Friedman struggled with early in LA ...you're driving a bulldozer, it's not a sports car.  He's figuring (figured) it out.

That was the first half of the argument. The other half is the very next post.

Horrible game.  Offense couldn't do shit.

I don't think the answer for Gunnar is to send him down, but it's a shame to see him struggle after what he flashed last year. He hasn't even had a couple game stretch where he looked like he is about to bust out.

Heard an interview a couple years ago and the Rays had a hard-on to get Arozarena.

Right...sorry, didn't see that.  I was slowly typing words.

They're all kind of stinking right now. Just can't let a bad skid spiral out of control. Steal 1 against TB. Pittsburgh is cooling off.
