Should have been 20-8 but whatever.

We are 20-8 what do you mean

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

I would think a .500 run through May would be considered a major achievement. To do that, you must step on the Royals’ necks. None of this 2 of 3 crap against massively inferior opponents.

I will take 2 of 3 in every series.

Love this outfield but I'm sorry to see Ortiz go down

I think the only reason he was here, was that we were facing a lot of lefties in Detroit.

Good job Hyde. Ask too much of Voth. Just fucking turn it over to Coulombe. The worst game manager since Mazzelli

I like reading these game threads, after the fact.  I was watching the game and was fine with Voth starting the 8th.  He was pitching well and the BP was very short yesterday.  IMO, it was a good move trying to get another inning out of Voth.  Every thread is the same.  If Hyde pulls a guy after an inning.  He is an idiot who is at fault for the tired pen.  If he tries to go multiple innings with a reliever, he is an idiot, who leaves a guy in too far.

He had thrown 2 innings. He was only in to face 1 more batter. It was stupid. And yes sometimes you pull a guy, sometimes you extend. Thats called having a feel. I said in this game thread as it was setting up Voth needed to give us two. He extended him but it was a batter too far.

Like its not even a question that he overmanages games at this point.

I'll say this, I never used to put too much stock in the bullpen management side of things. Just too much we don't know as fans.

But then I met Buck Showalter. It's a you know it when you see it kind of thing with certain aspects of this game, and he definitely showed us how to manage the pen. That was a big thing for him.

yeah until one fateful playoff game in Toronto which is still perhaps the biggest managerial blunder I have witnessed in baseball in ....well just a few years watching this game....lol

I do think Buck was the master at managing over the long haul but his problem is he didn't know how to turn that long term vision off when the circumstances called for it.

You try to have it both ways.  You rip Hyde at every chance.  He did what made sense.  Voth walked the guy so it was a bad move.  I don't think Hyde is a great manager but I think he is a good one.  He has been given a pen that is made up largely of one inning guys.  With the starters not clearing 5 innings, I think we need to have guys like Akin and Voth eat as many outs as possible if they are throwing well.

A few planets would need to align for this to happen, but hey, the fact they're even in the conversation is half the battle, right?
