Win and take 3/4

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

"Now OPS sucks.  Got it."

"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."

"I'm too hungover to watch a loss." - McNulty

Stowers batting cleanup and playing RF.

Must be an error. I take it they still have time to fix the lineup card before first pitch?

Lol - sent down and hardly played, and now batting 4th in his 1st game back.  Whatever, I hope he hits 4 HRs.

No real problem the way they handled things for the first month. Vavra was getting numerous starts because 1. He had a great ST and 2. He was ahead of Stowers getting here and first up. #2 doesnt hold much water but #1 is understandable. Vavra is moved to the side now and its Stowers turn to show what he can do with those chances. Again, I expect 2 to 3 starts a week.

SEARCHING FOR SIX: With a win today, Baltimore would secure a sixth consecutive winning series...The Orioles have not won six straight series since July 21 to August 13, 2014.

WHAT'S TRENDING: The O's have won 10 of their last 12 games, 12 of their last 15, and 14 of their last 18...The 18-9 record is tied for the third-best start to begin a season in team history (since 1954), also done in 1966, 1979, 1985, 1992, and 2005, and trailing only the 19-8 starts in 1969, 1970, and 1997.

ON THE ATTACK: Baltimore is batting .256/.335/.421 (229-for-895) with 46 doubles, three triples, 32 home runs, 142 runs scored, 137 RBI, and 106 walks to start theseason...The O's rank fifth in the AL and seventh in MLB in runs scored after finishing 10th in the AL and 20th in MLB with 674 runs in 2022...The Birds rank among AL teams inwalks (1st), on-base percentage (2nd), batting average (4th), OPS (4th, .756), and slugging percentage (T-4th).

The Orioles lead the AL and rank fourth in MLB with 4.03 pitches per plate appearance; the O's have three players in the top 13 in the AL in pitches per plate appearance: Adley Rutschman (9th, 4.23), Anthony Santander (12th, 4.21), and Gunnar Henderson (13th, 4.20).

HIP HIP JORGE: Jorge Mateo has scored a run in a career-high six straight games, the longest active streak in the AL and second-longest active in MLB, since April 23...He is batting .395/.429/.721 (17-for-43) with five doubles, three homers, 13 runs scored, 11 RBI, three walks, one hit-by-pitch, and five stolen bases in 14 games since April 11... Among MLB players with at least 70 plate appearances this season, Mateo ranks fifth in batting average (.353), eighth in slugging percentage (.647), and ninth in OPS (1.050).

THE CANO SHOW: Yennier Cano tossed a perfect eighth inning in game two last night to break the O's record (since 1954) of consecutive hitless at-bats to begin a season... He's now gone 28 straight at-bats without surrendering a hit, the most by an MLB pitcher since Tampa Bay's Jason Adam and San Diego's Sean Manaea both opened 2022 with 28 consecutive hitless at-bats...Milwaukee's Josh Hader did not allow a hit in his first 35 at-bats to begin the 2020 season..Cano tied the team record by setting down the first 24 batters he faced to open 2023, joining Fred Holdsworth who set the record from July 17-24, 1976.

Bradish

QUICK HITS: Scheduled to make his fourth start of the season, second on the road, and first career start against the Tigers today...Made 23 starts in his rookie season with the Orioles in 2022...Went 4-7 with a 4.90 ERA (64 ER/117.2 IP) with 111 strikeouts to 46 walks...Was one of 13 O's players (7 pitchers) to make their debut in 2022...Started on the bump for Adley Rutschman's debut on May 21 vs. Tampa Bay...Tossed 16.0 consecutive scoreless innings across four starts from August 26 to September 6...Acquired by the Orioles along with RHP Kyle BrnovichRHP Zach Peek, and RHP Isaac Mattson from Los Angeles-AL in exchange for RHP Dylan Bundy on December 4, 2019...Originally drafted by the Angels in the fourth round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft out of New Mexico State...Teammates at NMSU with INF Joey Ortiz.

LAST TIME OUT: Dealt the loss on April 25 vs. Boston, allowing a career- high-tying seven runs (1 HR) on eight hits and four walks with one strikeout in 2.1 innings...Threw 40 pitches in the second inning, allowing three runs on four hits and a walk in the frame...Left with a runner on first base, who was stranded...Threw 81 pitches, 48 strikes.

Good to see yet another horrible home plate umpire. Already blown two that were almost a foot outside.

Love Palmer but Ben McDonald brings a higher level of technical analysis to the game. Really gets into the nitty gritty of pitching mechanics

My thoughts are that Palmer is bored anymore...LOL!  If you've been doing this for 20+ years and been in baseball for 60 years, you'd be bored of the pitcher mechancics as well..."just pitch better"...LOL!

I agree though, Ben is awesome!  I still love Palmer for different reasons than I love Ben.

I was just thinking that it would have been the perfect time for Mullins to drag a bunt for a hit. Another lost art in the sport.

Agree, like them both in different ways.

I remember a game last year but forget the details, Palmer's like "Baker has been good lately but he gets in trouble when he does X." Baker does X and gives up the lead...those comments always seem to happen.

I talked crap on O’Hearn in another thread but he has delivered so far. Ride that wave but he feels like Lew Ford or Bill Hall from 2012.
I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?
